Ren’ai was at her usually training spot with Yuri. Now that they worked together inside the restaurant, it meant that their hours were closer together. The drawback was that sometimes they worked on opposite shifts, and couldn’t do anything, because they only had a few hours after she got home before Yuri had to go to work for the night shift. At least Ichiro was a good manager – at least she thought so. He tried to be as fair as possible, just like his dad, so it all worked out for her. Ami had turned out to be a decent manager, too. Their other new assistant manager, a man named Yang, was doing fine, too. Today was one of those days, though, that their shifts had coincided rather nicely. Her best friend did get off slightly later, so she wrote her a note telling her that she had gone to their spot already for training, and to meet her there.
Their usual spot was simply an abandoned lot. No one used it anymore, and it worked just fine for their purposes. They were, after all, not allowed to practice in the Arena anymore – not yet anyway. She set her jacket over off the side, so that they wouldn’t run into it or anything. Ren’ai was wearing her usual comfortable workout outfit, and immediately started to go warm up. It was a bit ironic that she usually warmed up using techniques that her father had taught her – and he didn’t approve of Probending as a career for his only daughter. A smirk crossed her face temporarily as that thought crossed her mind. It didn’t seem as if many things had changed in the past couple of months or so, but that wasn’t true. A lot had changed. She was dating someone her parents approved of; Tadashi had come back into their lives and was dating their boss. (Granted, he was only a couple of years older than them, but it was funny just to say that their friend was dating their boss.)
The biggest thing that had changed, at least for Ren’ai was her relationship was Yuri. Things were no longer strained between them, and much more like they had been before everything had gone downhill earlier in the year. The two of them even worked together. Shortly after Tadashi had come back into their lives, so to speak, there had been a notice near where they clocked in that there was a meeting. It was there that Ichiro’s father, Kohaku, had told them that there would be another location opening on the other side. He and his wife, Setsuko, would be moving over, as well as Lian, the assistant manager. Her assistant would be taking over the kitchen as chef, and Ichiro would be the General Manager, and Ami would be promoted to assistant manager. He had also put his foot down about saying his son didn’t deserve it – because he wouldn’t be doing it if he didn’t.
Ren’ai thought it was good that someone said something. It didn’t matter to her that his family opened the place – he had been a good worker, and was now a good manager. They should all just shut up as far as she was concerned. However, Kohaku had used that opportunity to tell anyone who lived closer to the other restaurant that they could move if they wanted. Yuri had used that opportunity to ask to be moved inside and trained as a waitress. Kohaku and Ichiro had said yes, but the older of the two had made sure to say that her friendship with Ren’ai couldn’t affect her work. It had been a bit weird at first, but as they repaired their relationship, everything was fine. They lived together, trained together… what big deal was working together? Things had been a bit crazy recently, but they had hired a few new people who were now fully trained, so things were starting to smooth out.
Ren’ai took a deep breath, and began going throw some basic Probending moves, no fire involved. She was just using this opportunity to warm up before Yuri got here.
