From Bad to Worse [Tag: Yuri]

Ren’ai hated her life right now. If there was an explanation of how much life could suck, the description of her life would be front and center. In the past several months, things had gone from bad to worse. First off, the Dragon Hawks had failed to get into the Semi-Finals, losing to the Flying Koi in the Quarters. It wasn’t due to the fact that they were better than them, but as Captain, she’d failed her team and it had made them lose. After that, they had lost their Waterbender, Kamil – the only one who’d managed to deal with her and stick around other than her best friend, Yuri. Tadashi has split at the same time, too. The Air Acolyte had been not only their friend, but their Manager, too. If anything, that had hurt more than losing Kamil, because now, they weren’t even friends. She hadn’t spoken to him since, and she couldn’t help but feel now that he’d pushed her away because of something that she’d done wrong. What else would be new, right? She pushed everyone away.

That had only been the start of her problems, though, and since then, things had gone from bad to worse. They had been unable to find a replacement for Kamil, and the stress was wearing on both her and Yuri. Now, they were at each other’s throats. It didn’t help that they saw each other at work as well as lived together at home. Things had gotten really bad in the past six months or so. At first after losing Kamil, the two young women had done everything they could to keep their spirits up. That hadn’t worked forever, though, and after a while, Ren’ai had started taking her frustrations out on Yuri. That wasn’t new, but usually, the Earthbender’s calm demeanor had eventually gotten her to calm down. That wasn’t the case now as the other young woman equally as frustrated as the Firebender, and started doing the same. This caused a lot of stress in basically every aspect of their lives. She wasn’t sure if things kept up if she’d even have a best friend for much longer.

Ren’ai was now totally dependent on her job as a waitress at Watashi’s. She was good at her job, but Ichiro’s father was not sympathetic. Luckily for her, Ichiro managed to convince her father to give her a little bit of a break. She now did everything she could to keep her attitude up at work, but that caused her to be even more hostile to Yuri at home. After all, she had no one else to be angry at. The Earthbender was the only other person around. They trained together still, lived together, and saw each other occasionally at work. At last Yuri was a delivery girl and not a waitress. That would probably have caused them to kill each other out right. In reality, the Firebender felt very depressed that this was driving them apart. They’d been friends for well over ten years, and it was sad that it had come to this. However, she had no idea how to fix things between them. That was usually Yuri’s job, and she wasn’t doing that right now. Therefore, they fought and argued.

Ren’ai and Yuri had even been forced to buy a new coffee table last month because she had set it on fire during one of their arguments. They blamed each other for that, but in reality, she blamed herself for absolutely everything. She didn’t know how to tell Yuri that so she didn’t. She wasn’t good at being the fixer of arguments, and it was becoming harder and harder to live with her when she wasn’t being the voice of reason. Not that she blamed her. If the positions were reversed, she would have hated herself too. It had been so long since she’d set anything on fire, too, that it only made her feel worse that she couldn’t control her temper. It had always been a source of anxiety for her when she realized that she was such an angry person, but looking at the charred remains of their table had really made her angry at herself, and therefore, she didn’t know what else to do but take it out on Yuri some more and say that she blamed her for it because she had started the argument. It wasn’t true, but it was the only way that Ren’ai knew how to deal with things.

And to top it all off, Ren’ai’s relationship with her parents was not getting better. Both of them were being very smug about the fact that they had foreseen that this “Probending” thing would fail, and that she hated her job as a waitress in “some restaurant”. According to her father, it all pointed to the fact that she should be getting married and settling down. They were trying to set her up with a young man for a rich family set to inherit millions. She knew what the reason was. They didn’t want to really split the fortune her father had four ways. This way, they’d have to leave it to their four sons, and make sure that had enough to be appropriate. She wouldn’t need if she married rich. As much as she hated the idea of being a trophy wife, the idea of this horrible state she was in ending was very enticing. Yutaka, the man in question, was actually not that much older than her - about nine years or so. He was horribly smug and arrogant based on their first – and only meeting – to date.

Ren’ai didn’t know what to do, and she sat down on the couch. She was still in her fine clothes that she’d worn over to her parents’ house for the weekly dinner. Her brothers were sympathetic, but they didn’t understand. After all, how could they – they were guys. She was wearing a red dress that fit her very well, and showed off her curves as much as was appropriate going over to her parent’s house. Her makeup was subdued, and she wore a pair of nice high heels. Her long black hair was up in an elegant up-do. She knew that she looked very good right now. Luckily she enjoyed getting dressed up, because if she didn’t, the whole process of going over to her parents’ house would be even worse than it already was. The Firebender laid her head back on the couch, and then laid her hand across her face as she gave a heavy sigh. Her mother was trying to “get to her to see reason” that the path she was on isn’t working, and that she should try to see if she could deal with Yutaka. If she could, then she should marry and move out of the “dingy apartment” she was in with Yuri and live the life she was meant to.

And the sad thing about all that was several months ago she hated her mother for suggesting it. Now… she was starting to think that her parents were right. Maybe she should agree to be with Yutaka…

Yuri had no idea how things had gotten to this point. After their Probending team fell apart, well that had to be the whole root of everything. At first she had tried her best to be upbeat about the whole thing and used all of her energy to help drive her best friend. Because she had known that in their relationship that she had always been the one to keep a level head and to look on the lighter side of life. But the past months had been wearing on her, and in a way she was very disappointed in the way that she had been acting.

It seemed like she was no longer acting like the voice of reason and do whatever she could to keep the peace and to quail the temper that churned within Ren’ai. The new role that she had felt odd to her, but it didn’t matter to her because she had just gotten to the point where she just didn’t care anymore. It had taken so much energy to keep things calm, and every so often she had broken a dish or a cup when her roommate had complained about something that she was cooking for dinner. Well for crying out loud if the other woman had wanted to eat something different then she could have just cooked for herself.

At least it had not gotten to the point to where they would dare to raise a hand to one another, sure sparing to keep their skills up was one thing. And of course she was always careful not to allow herself to be careless and get burned alive. Because it seemed like they both blamed each other for everything that had gone wrong. As a type of diversion for herself she had dated anyone that had seemed interested in her, sometimes she didn’t care if they really cared for her. It had turned into her having different flings and she didn’t even care if they contacted her to see her again. Sure that kind of behavior had seemed to spark a new fight but it was what she needed to do because right now her life seemed so bleak and she needed some light. Even for just a little bit like the sun peeking out from behind a cloud, she needed to have a little bit of control over something in her life. And this was the one thing that she could control.

It had pissed her off when Ren’ai had lost her temper and had set the coffee table on fire and had ruined it. So instead of screaming or yelling at her friend she grabbed a plate and threw it across the room. There was something satisfying about hearing the glorious sound of the breaking plate, and knowing that she was the cause of it. Which upon reflecting on her actions later made her see how immature she had been. But in her feeble defense she had liked that piece of furniture, it was one of the things that they both had liked and wanted in their place. After breaking the plate she left to go out, because she didn’t want to be the one to clean it up.

At the very least she was working as a delivery girl and didn’t have to work side by side with her friend, because she had worn through her last nerve. It was horrible how things had gotten because they were at each other’s throats. At the very least they were civilized enough not to try to kill each other in their sleep. It had been a long day and she just wanted to go home have a hot cup of tea and a nice shower and crawl into bed. When she opened the door there was her roommate, and she was dressed up so it was easy to guess where she had come home from.

“Want some tea?” She asked, making her way towards the small kitchen to do so. Because it would not be too much of a problem to make another cup, while she was making herself one.

Ren’ai almost hadn’t noticed the door open and shut. She just sat there, her arm across her eyes, still in her nice dress. She didn’t come out of her thoughts until she heard a voice speaking to her. Lifting her arm off of her eyes, she looked over at her best friend. Were they still best friends, or had they degraded to just roommates now? She wasn’t sure how that worked, and she wouldn’t bring it up with Yuri. It was too painful to think about. “Sure, that’d be great,” she said, her voice not holding its usual scathing tone that she’d held lately. If the Firebender was honest with herself, she was too tired of it and had too much to think about to worry about right now than fighting with the Earthbender.

Ren’ai needed to talk to someone about what was going on in her life right now, but she wasn’t sure Yuri cared about what she had to say anymore. Not that she blamed her. She had pretty much single handedly ruined everything. It was a horrible thing to think, but it was one that had gone through her mind many times over the past several months. That’s why she had been hostile. Maybe they should just forget the Probending thing, like her mother suggested, and try to repair what’s left of their friendship. If the Firebender lost Yuri, she wasn’t sure what she would do. Other than her family, she really had no one else. It was a depressing thought to think that she might be in an arranged marriage with no one else around but her family. What kind of life would that be?

“So, didn’t you have a date tonight?” Ren’ai almost said something about how was her new “flavor of the week”, but she was so tired of fighting right now. Of course, depending upon Yuri’s reaction, it could turn out to be one. The Firebender only hoped that their friendship could be saved, but it might be past saving now. To think that their dream would be the thing that destroyed them. No that wasn’t right, was it? She had done it all. If only they could find a Waterbender, then perhaps their friendship could be repaired. Things would only get worse, though, if they couldn’t keep their Waterbender. If they found one temporarily only have them chased away again, it would only make things worse afterwards.

Looking over at Yuri again, Ren’ai opened up her mouth to tell her that she was thinking about agreeing to at least talk to Yutaka. Her parents thought highly of him. Granted, she thought he was a smug, arrogant, spoiled little rich boy, but she was no angel – far from it, actually. That only had been from one meeting, though, she thought to herself as she closed her mouth and looked away. The Firebender had no idea if the Earthbender would still want to talk to her after everything that happened. Maybe it was better if they just both let everything go. She just couldn’t do that, though, not completely, not yet. If there was some chance that their relationship could be salvaged. There was a very good chance, though, that it couldn’t. Sometimes people grow apart and things just aren’t meant to be.

Yuri had not expected to get a civil response from Ren’ai, a little shrug of her shoulders as she made sure to put enough water in the pot to boil. Luckily for her she was used to keeping her breathing level to keep herself calm and not to give her roommate a snide remark. Because she was so expecting it that it put her even more on her guard like something was up. Could it be that the slightly shorter woman was going to tell her that she was going to move out? Well it would have made sense because things had been so stressed out between them that she wouldn’t have blamed her in the least if that was the news that she was going to drop.

And yet it seemed like the main question here was, did she care either way? It would be nice to be able to relax again, but even that thought made her heart feel a bit heavy. A little bit of shock flashed in her green eyes as she was asked if she had planned to go out tonight. She was lucky that her back was turned to the girl on the couch because she was getting the cups out. It was sad because they were not the same ones that they had brought when they first moved in together. One way or another they had become casualties in their little domestic fight.

“I cancelled because I was just not in the mood, so how was your family dinner?” She asked her because it was only polite to ask a question in return to keep a conversation going. Because this was what she had missed, but yet she couldn’t let herself relax because she felt like at any moment that the rug can be pulled out from beneath her feet and she will be on her back before she knows it. And she was not sure about going into the living room, but thought that her roommate would enjoy some of the sweet steamed buns that she had made that morning with the tea. So she put a couple on a plate as she poured some loose tea into the almost hot water and knew that she would have to wait for another minute before it would be ready.

It was not like she really felt like talking because all she wanted was a scorching bath and a hot cup of tea to help her relax. There was no helping the fact that her shoulders felt even tenser then when she walked in and saw who was sitting on the couch. There was no doubt in her mind that another cup was going to be joining the list of objects that were destroyed because one of them had lost their temper. Sure it seemed that breaking dishes was her doing, but dang it replacing burned up furniture was more expensive and she couldn’t afford it for sure.

Things were awkward now, and they weren’t supposed to be just roommates. If that were true, it might even make sense a little. They were supposed to be best friends, a fact that she had been constantly reminded of lately. The Firebender wasn’t sure why she seemed to be more reminded of how badly things had gotten tonight than all of the other nights. After all, this “fight” between her and Yuri had been going on for several months now. It was not a new development, yet she was feeling worse about the situation and more remorseful than usual. Maybe it was all finally getting to her, everything that had happened. She had known, of course, how much of a horrible person she was prior tonight. Admitting all of that to Yuri was another story entirely. This was a good first step, though, right?

Ren’ai felt saddened that you could almost cut the tension in the room with a knife. It was almost easier now to fight than try to be civil. There was something very wrong with that, in her opinion, but she wasn’t sure what she could do about that. “The usual,” Ren’ai told Yuri. “My parents told me how they were right, and I was wrong – as usual.” She wasn’t sure what else to say. They hadn’t really talked much. It was always yelling and arguing, and how the other was wrong and at fault. It was weird, sitting here, and trying to have a real conversation. That was if you could call what they were doing having a real conversation. It was more of being polite and just saying what you need to. It wasn’t like they used to be, and she wasn’t sure if they would ever be like that again. That was a depressing thought.

Ren’ai almost thought about just sitting there and waiting for Yuri to finish the tea. There was no reason why she had to sit here and try to talk to her, except for the fact that they were best friends – at least they used to be, anyway. If there was any chance at repairing their relationship, they had to start with baby steps. There was no guarantee they’d ever find a Waterbender for their Probending team, and life had to go on. She didn’t want to live the rest of her life thinking that she’d ruined her relationship with her best friend over a Probending team. The Firebender thought briefly that she’d been perfectly happy acting like she was fine with over the past several months, but she pushed it away. Thinking like that wasn’t going to help anything; she saw that now. Only, it might be too little too late.

“My parents are still trying to get me to get married,” Ren’ai told Yuri. She figured this was a start – telling each other about their night. That’s what people were supposed to do, right? They used to talk about everything. “I don’t think I told you but I met this guy they want for me.” Of course, I didn’t tell you because we were fighting, she told herself . “His name is Yutaka. He came off as kind of smug and arrogant.” If anyone had faults, though, it was her, and that was a fact. “My mom wants me to see if I can deal with him, and if I can, she wants me to marry him.” She paused for a second, as the thought of what she was thinking about agreeing to set in. “I’m thinking about taking her up on the offer.” In reality, she wasn’t agreeing to actually marry him, but see if she could deal with him. Of course, that was with the promise of if she did, she’d marry him, but she was trying not to think about that.

Yuri wasn’t sure what to think about the little bomb shell that was dropped on her. A part of her was saying that she didn’t care and that it had nothing to do with her. So what if it turned out that Ren’ai actually got along with this man and got married to him? And why the hell is she saying all of this now? How dare she go out on a date and not even say anything to her about it. Just thinking about it made her angry, but she quickly cooled down because in all fairness they had been at each other’s necks for months. And really did she have any right to say what was on her mind? And were they still friends? Those questions caused her to hold her tongue while she poured the tea into their cups.

“Well it sounds like they have yet to change their tune.” She commented about the slightly shorter girl’s family, because they were always sticking their noses into her life and telling her how to live it. A part of her was worried about sitting next to her and for them to drink tea together. It just seemed like it would be safer to keep some distance between them until it was clear where this was going, because she would be damned if she was going to be the first person to say that they were sorry. It might seem odd because she was always the level headed one and that it might kill what little bit of friendship that they still had by her being stubborn. But it seemed like things would have to be more give and take instead of her being the giver and always the first to say that they were sorry and shouldering all of the blame.

“Sounds like them.” The green eyed girl said as she brought the tea into the living room. She set down one cup on the coffee table and leaned against the wall and sipped her own. She was still not sure what to say that wouldn’t set the other girl off, and still trying to tell herself that she didn’t care. But she couldn’t help the words that started to come out of her mouth. “I cannot believe that she would want for you to marry a man that you can just tolerate and not love if he will have you. Does she not want for you to be happy and in love with the man that you’re going to be spending the rest of your life with?”

Her voice was level the whole time and the only thing that gave her away was the fact that she griped her cup so hard in her hands that it broke. The pain that she felt from the sharp shards piercing the tender flesh of her palms was nothing compared to how much her heart hurt. The fear of saying what she truly wanted to say was so great because she didn’t want to risk pushing Ren’ai even further away then she already was. Before she knew it there was warm tears falling from her eyes, and she was not normally one to cry like a baby.

Ren’ai almost thought that this was all too good to be true. Although Yuri was being rather stiff and formal, if she was to be honest, it was a far cry from the fighting that they had done. The Firebender couldn’t help but wonder if things were going to go up from here on out. That hadn’t happened yet. In fact, in the past several months, things had gone from bad to worse. For some reason, after her dinner with her parents tonight, she couldn’t help but think more about it. Perhaps the notion of getting married was making her realize what was really important – Yuri and their friendship, and nothing else. Probending wasn’t worth losing it over, but she couldn’t bring herself to apologize for everything that she had done wrong. It was a long list, and the dark-haired teen was afraid that if she started, she would never stop. Well, that, and she was too proud to say it, and the Earthbender was evidently not going to say anything either, not that she blamed her of course.

Ren’ai was sort of disappointed that Yuri didn’t attempt to sit by her on the couch like old times. That was how it had always been – they’d share a cup of hot tea on the couch together and talk about anything and everything. A sense of disappointment and guilt washed through her as she picked up her tea cup, but she kept her face emotionless – a tall task for her to be sure, and she gripped her cup tighter to stop from screaming at her. She was not a calm person, but she was going to do everything in her power for the rest of this night to go well. She wasn’t surprised that Yuri disagreed, but she was surprised at how passionate she was being about it. Her heart began to race as her best friend’s words rang through her head. It was as if a weight was being lifted off of her shoulders hearing them. Maybe there’s hope for us yet, she told herself silently. If all was not lost, then they could rebuild. Maybe there was no hope for the team or them as teammates – or her as a Captain.

Ren’ai gasped in shock as Yuri gripped the cup so hard it broke. She jumped up, setting the cup down on the table. Running into the bathroom, she some towels from the kitchen. A simple band aid wouldn’t work for all the cuts the Earthbender would have on her hands. She handed her one towel, and then bent down to the ground with the other and picked up all the glass. She did all this without saying a single word to her. Once the glass was gone and properly disposed of, the Firbender took the towel and mopped up the spilt tea from the floor around Yuri. She put that with the other dirty towels before going back to stand in best friend, her amber eyes full of concern. “Are you okay?” She said, looking down at her hands, and she took her hands to make sure that all the glass was out before getting rid of the towel and getting another one in case she was still bleeding.

It was then and only then that Ren’ai actually looked at Yuri full in the face. She hadn’t been able to tell from the couch that she’d been crying, and the Firebender had been too busy dealing with the situation to realize what was going on – Yuri was crying. She wasn’t sure why exactly. It couldn’t be just because of her saying she might be getting married. The tears sparked something inside of her, and she wrapped her arms around her best friend’s neck, pressing herself up against the slight taller teen. No tears came from the Firebender’s eyes, though, but her whole body was tense. “You’re right, you’re absolutely right,” she said, her voice soft as a whisper. She couldn’t say what Yuri was right about out loud, although silently she knew that the Earthbender was right about everything. She wasn’t sure that she could say that out loud, though. That simple statement was all she could muster without breaking down completely, something she had been avoiding doing with anyone around for months.

Ren’ai wasn’t sure how long she stayed there, hugging Yuri, but eventually, she released her best friend, and immediately wrapped her arms around herself. She had always known that she was very emotion, but usually, those emotions were either clearly positive – like happiness – or clearly negative – like anger and sadness. Whatever she was feeling now was somewhere in between, and she both hated it and was relieved by it. “Although, I never said that I was getting married to him,” Ren’ai said, hoping that she could clear the air by continuing their conversation and not falling to Yuri’s feet and begging for forgiveness. “It wouldn’t hurt to at least give the guy a chance.” She shrugged her shoulders. “Who knows, maybe it’ll work.” Things were so weird between them now, and she could hope that this was a good sign and things wouldn’t continue to be weird and turn bad again. She wanted things to better, she just didn’t know what else to do, and she wasn’t sure she could say the truth.

Yuri was so shocked with her own anger that she was not sure how to react. Her hand was being treated by Ren’ai and she wasn’t sure what to say as her friend embraced her. It was very emotional for her and she was trying hard to stop the tears that she was crying but it was hard like trying to hold back a river. So she did the only thing and wraps her arms around her shorter friend. Just hearing her friend telling her that she had been right was as close to an apology that she was ever going to get. And hell that would work for her because she did need her best friend.

A feeling of loss when she removed her arms and held herself as she continued to talk about the situation with the guy her parents wanted her to marry. Well it felt like everything should go back to the way that they were but there was still a little bit of resentment in her for the past months. And it sounded like her parents wanted for her to settle down for sure and the fact that she was going to see how this guy was. Well that was all up to her.

“True there is no harm in meeting the guy. And if he is not your type then you can tell your mom that and hope that she will get off of your back. It just pisses me off that she is still trying to stick her nose in your love life. My family has just about washed their hands with my behavior these past months.” The Earthbender told her friend with a little grin. Oh she found it amusing the reaction that she had gotten out of her mother. “Just seeing me with a girl almost had my mother foaming at the mouth, I wish that you had been able to see it.”

Oh her mother had almost thrown a fit over the whole thing but at least she had not caused a scene until her ‘friend’ was gone. And to think that normally she would have not done anything to upset her mother, but at least now she was being honest with herself. And well there were other ways that she could have gently broke the truth to her mom, but this was just suited the mood that she had been in. At least her brother had accepted the way that she was and her parents were slowly trying to get used to it. The only thing that they had asked of her was for her to slow down her dating and get to know someone before cutting them loose.

Ren’ai let out a harsh laugh at Yuri’s words. “Yeah, right, you’ve met my mother, haven’t you?” The chance of her mother just rolling over and telling her that it was fine and she could take her time finding a proper husband if things didn’t work out between her and Yutaka were slim to none. If it didn’t, then her mother would turn her tables again. “If he’s not my type, my mother will probably lecture me on the fact that none of my relationships have worked out, so obviously, I don’t know what I want,” she explained. “Then, she’ll tell me to either give him another chance or find someone else, and I won’t hear the end of it until I do.” Sighing, the Firebender went into the kitchen, and fixed Yuri another cup of tea. She cheated, though, using Firebending to heat up the water before handing the new cup back to her best friend. “So, in the off chance it does work out, it’s the only way I’m getting out this without not hearing about it for the rest of my life.”

Ren’ai went back to the couch and sat down on one end, grabbing her cup and heating up the water inside. After all, it had gotten a tad tepid after all the excitement of Yuri cutting herself… not that it was a good thing or anything like that. Sure, it may loosened long tension between them, but she’d never wish for her best friend to hurt herself. Sitting on the other end of the couch, though, gave the Earthbender a chance to sit down if she chose to. The Firebender secretly hoped she would, but considering how bad things had been between them, she didn’t want to ask her to sit down if she wasn’t ready to act like it was old times yet. It was feeling more like old times now – ah, parent bashing, what a wonderful pastime. Well, at least for them, it was. Neither of them really got along with her parents most of them. At times, sure, things could be okay, but… only at times.

Ren’ai took another sip of her tea. “I’m not entirely thrilled with her sticking her nose in my love life either, but this might get her off my back for a little bit,” she told Yuri. “Not for very long, I can guarantee you.” That’s just what her mother is like. Sure, she said that it was only because she cared. In reality, her parents didn’t want to have to leave her anything if she never got married before they passed away. Her mother was still fairly young, but her father was not so much anymore. She had three brothers, as well, and her marrying into a rich family would make sure that they could leave her much less than her brothers. It was so frustrating, but she told herself not to take it out on Yutaka until she’d actually gotten to meet the guy and get to know him. After all, he might be in a similar boat with his parents, who knows? Besides, she knew nothing about him other than his name and that he was around her age.

Yuri’s mention of her family almost ‘washing their hands’ of her because her recent behavior made Ren’ai feel guilty, but any flash of that on her face was gone in a second. “Yeah, well, that’s nothing new to me, anyway,” she told her. “The whole Probending thing has made them so happy.” It was sad just thinking that they’d never make it, and without a Waterbender, they never would. She wasn’t sure if she could talk about without getting mad and feeling guilty about how much she screwed everything up, and probably pushed Tadashi and Kamil away. Luckily, Yuri kept talking, saying about her mother had freaked out over her sexuality. At least her Earthbending friend had decided to mention it to her while they had been fighting the past few months. It didn’t really bother her. Sure, she was into girls as well as guys, but hey, they were best friends, had been since they were little, and that didn’t threaten her in the last. Any issues in their relationship had nothing to do with that.

“Let her have a problem with it,” Ren’ai told Yuri. Sure, you didn’t hear about it too much – at least she hadn’t, but Ichiro was gay, so what was the big deal? In fact, the Firebender gave her best friend a lot of credit for being honest with herself. That wasn’t always an easy thing to do that. “You are who are you are. Are they at least trying to get used to it?” She just wanted Yuri to be happy, and that was it. Another thought crept into her mind at that moment, though, and one that was kind of off topic. “You know, I think we should get back to practicing. Forget having a Waterbender. We shouldn’t get rusty, and even if we don’t ever get another Waterbender, at least we’re doing what we love, even if it’s just for fun.” She know thought that they never would, and hoped that sadness didn’t show on her face. She didn’t want to admit it, but she never thought that they would, and if they did, then she was pretty sure that she’d find a way to screw it up – just like she seemed to have done with everything else. At least if she didn’t lose Yuri, she could deal with everything else. Losing her would be something worse than everything combined.
