Katsumi politely declined the burlesque, but Ling grinned anyway. "I was just kidding," she said lightly, expertly concealing her discomfiture at pressing her friend into something she should've known better than to do. Of course Katsumi wouldn't want to go to a burlesque after work.
"Sure, the marketplace!" Ling was happy for a change in topic. "You know, I hear there is this new food stand, if you're into southern Earth Kingdom food — they've got a lot of stuff that's just amazing: spicy fish skewers, fried sausage, dumplings, roasted corn, the works!"
She sauntered inside Katsumi's house, taking no note of the disrepair; her house was immaculate mainly because Mei was a neat person. Ling was a mess, but had long since learned to keep herself in check around her sister, including in her own room. Her desk at the office, however, was another story entirely, with every single desk in the office filled with her amassed unfiled paperwork, office supplies, and various other things she had long forgotten the use for but couldn't bring to throw away.
"Take your time," she said as her friend disappeared into her bedroom. "The food isn't going anywhere for a couple of hours yet."
Katsumi finally emerged with the purse and checked herself in the mirror. "You look fine," she said, offering up the crook of her elbow when the other woman announced she was ready. "Let us away, my fancy lady."

Once they were outside, Ling paused. The market wasn't that far from where they were, but the night would probably call for a lot of walking, when Katsumi had been on her feet all day. Not wanting her friend to be overly tired — and somewhat hoping for a little tumble at the end of the night — Ling turned to Katsumi with a shrug.
"Do you want to take a cab?" she asked.
