The dining hall is a large room used for dining by the Air Acolytes and the rest of the island's residents. It overlooks Republic City and the pro-bending arena.
The structure features several minimalist wall ornaments and supply shelves, along with numerous low eating tables (which are placed over a pit allowing for either a 'traditional' seat or a chair-like seat) and seat cushions. The room is simplistic, with primarily geometrical shapes lining the interior and the many windows on either side of the hall.

No matter how loud the ant hollered, Ikki would not come down. She was having so much fun leaping from tree to tree with the use of her airbending. The ant, who was actually an Acolyte, called to her again but Ikki was so high up in the sky that she could not hear the woman's raspy voice. "Weeeeee!" Ikki squealed as she pushed her feet off of a slender branch. Spreading her arms out she felt just like a flying lemur as she soared toward an adjacent tree. "This is so much fun!" Upon hearing this the woman below bristled and called for another Acolyte who wasn't far off. Ikki frowned. This lady was trying to ruin her fun! Couldn't the ant lady see that Ikki was busy? Wasn't it rude to interrupt someone while they were having fun? Turning her pointed nose toward the ground Ikki hopped off of the new branch and nose dived toward the woman who was now accompanied by the other Air Acolyte.
Reaching her scrawny, little arms into the air, Ikki caught herself on a branch a few feet above the woman's head. "What's the big idea?" the child asked as she dangled her petite feet above the woman. "I wasn't doing anything wrong." With a scowl the ant lady crossed her arms below her chest and informed Ikki that her mother wanted her for lunch. "What!" Ikki exclaimed as she let go of the branch and cushioned her fall with her airbending. "Mommy wants to eat me? Why can't she eat Meelo or Jinora first?" Ikki thought herself clever for teasing the Acolyte, but the lady was in no mood for jokes today. "Alright, alright," Ikki grumbled as the lady pointed in the direction of the Dinning Hall, "Keep your robes on." With a smirk she took off and ran as fast as she could. When she entered the Dinning Hall her cheeks were flushed and she was panting slightly.
"Mommy!" Ikki called out as she rushed toward Pema with open arms. "Someone told me I was on the menu today, but that's silly. We should eat Meelo instead. Where is everybody? Ohhh what are we eating? I hope it's not sea prunes! Yuck."

Ikki’s shrieks provided a familiar soundtrack as she read, as did the rustle of pages turning. The younger girl might be having fun darting through the trees of the island, but Jinora found herself drawn to other words and the endless possibilities they held. At the moment she was somewhere in the ancient Earth Kingdom, watching as the heroine of the story pledged her love to the prince of the kingdom, and he confirmed that he felt the same. As the two kissed, Jinora sighed in happiness. It was so romantic! Historical fiction was her favorite thing to read. Her dad wasn’t too happy about that—he thought she should be learning about history as it actually happened—but since it obviously made her happy he left it alone. And so the girl was allowed to indulge in her passion, which she did almost all the time. The constantly-growing piles of books around her room were proof of that.
She was distracted, though, by the arrival of one of the Acolytes, who eased her way into the room, doing her best not to topple any books. Jinora smiled at woman in greeting, nodding when she was told that her mother was gathering the family for lunch. ”I’ll be right there,” the girl promised. The woman nodded, visibly relieved, and Jinora wondered if that was because she’d already had to round up the other two children. As the Acolyte left, the girl turned back to her book, a little sad that she had to stop right when it had gotten so good. But she could always get back to it later. So, marking her place with a slip of paper on which Ikki had messily scribbled the word “bookmark,” Jinora left to go join her mother.
She entered the Dining Hall right behind Ikki, smiling at her mother as she waited for her turn for a hug. When it came, she wrapped her arms around the woman’s waist with a mile. ”Hi mom.” Ikki was chattering away as usual, but Jinora just smiled at her sister and took a seat. Noticing the empty spaces at the tables, she looked at her mother. ”Is Dad coming?” she asked. ”And what about Meelo?”

Tenzin heaved a sigh of relief as he made his way from the council chambers.
"Tarrlok and his foolish taskforce. He's only asking for trouble." The Airbending Master had tried, repeatedly, to sway Tarrlok from his current endeavour. More than that, the Representative of the Northern Water Tribe had a charisma that Tenzin couldn't compete with. The fact that the other Council members had stood behind him was an even greater confusion.
Attempting to put that out of his mind, the council had once again convened early so that Tarrlok could meet with The Avatar. This of course was yet another source of contention between himself and Tarrlok.
He turned on his heel and made for home. He passed Tarrlok on the way out and simply harumphed. The little signal of the airbender's temper was followed by a brief, but harsh, gust of air for the other man. "Tarrlok. Do not let any harm come to Korra. I will hold you personally responsible."
He didn't wait for a response since he knew that his family would be holding a meal time soon. It should already be started, but if the Keeper of the Air Temple knew his children they were likely scattered about the island.

Tenzin arrived at the docks to the Island by way of his Aircycle. He hadn't wanted to wait on the ferry today, and he knew that he had to situate his mood before meeting with his family. He couldn't stand showing them that he was upset or concerned. Not that it mattered horribly as more often that not Pema simply knew when he wasn't at his full potential.
As his toes touched down, his face looked upward as what appeared to be some sort of tornado of leaves, branches, that appeared to be chasing a lemur of all things. Wait a moment...was that...
For several moments he watched to see what would happen. He knew that the boy would be caught only when he winded himself. At that thought Tenzin chuckled, laughing at his own pun. After several more moments of watching the general mayhem his youngest was causing he decided to put an end to it as he walked toward the dining hall. "MEELO!" he hollered as he noticed one of the acolytes chasing the child across the grounds to no avail. "LUNCH!"
He continued, somewhat more lighthearted, toward the Dining Hall. His family always brought out a smile or two, at the very least.

It took my stick! IT TOOK MY STICK!!
The lemur chattered away to itself as Meelo pushed himself to keep up with the winged creature, panting heavily. He had been chasing the chatty monkey all over the island and it still had his stick! He would get his stick back, no matter the cost! He swore it! What would a lemur even need a stick for anyway? It was obviously just out to get him because he had more use for the stick than it did.
Those acolytes had not been able to take the stick away from him, so there was no way that he would let a fluffy flying creature have it! It would damage his reputation of amazingness and undefeatableness!
The lemur was perched on the edge of a cliff that went straight down into the water, so sure of itself. Well, it's overconfidence would be it's downfall. Maybe most mortals would be cautious about going near a drop like that, but not he! He was Meelo the Awesome!
Sneaking up to the creature, Meelo roared fiercely as he leapt forwards to battle the monster for control of the stick, in a combat that would be spoken of only in whispers for a million years. It heard his yell and it turned to face him, baring it's formidable fangs and screeching a battlecry as Meelo's strong hands grabbed for the item that was rightfully his. With a cheap shot to the head, the lemur took to the air, certain that the brave young hero could not follow.
But what the lemur did not know was that this brave young hero was an airbender! He laughed at gravity!
With a might prrrrrrrrrrt, Meelo propelled himself into the air after the lemur, twigs and leaves following in his wake from the strength of his fury. Taken by surprise, the winged beast did not have time to react as the boy snatched the stick from it's fearsome talons before landing gracefully on the ground.
"IT HAS RETURNED TO ME! I AM THE MIGHTIEST AIRBENDER IN THE WORLD", Meelo bellowed, attracting the attention of an ailing acolyte.
"Oh dear Spirits!", the acolyte exclaimed, his terror completely unfeigned. "He has that ruddy stick again!"
Running forward in an attempt to take the stick away, Meelo laughed at his vain efforts, jumping to the very tip of a nearby tree.
"You shall never separate me from the Stick of Might, puny mortal!" Meelo announced, blowing a raspberry at the acolyte so powerful that it pulled several leaves free from their respective branches.
"MEELO! LUNCH!"
Daddy's voice pierced clearly through the acolytes pleas and Meelo looked over to where his parent was walking across the docks. Dropping the stick (which landed squarely on the long suffering acolyte's head), the young airbender ran at full speed to catch up with his daddy, jumping up onto his shoulders and holding onto his big ears for balance.
"Yip Yip! Fly to lunch, daddy!" Meelo ordered, laughing.

Tenzin looked around carefully, ensuring that none of the Air Acolytes could see himself and his youngest child and then gladly obliged his son. With a flick of his finger he blew the door of the dining hall open, trying to be as careful as possible to not topple anything that would be inside.
He then spun his arms wide, created a small disk of quickly spinning air beneath the sole of either foot, and pretended to skate the rest of the way across the courtyard, arms flailing about madly as he pretended to lose his balance. Every now and again wincing as his son's hands on his ears were pulled a little too far one direction or the other, but generally just accepting that, for now, he was going to be his son's sky bison.
Upon arriving at the steps of the Dining Hall he settled his feet firmly upon the ground a tucked his hands behind his back. A wiggle of his fingers and a flick of his wrists sent a focused blast of air up underneath Meelo's bottom in an attempt to dislodge him from the robed form of his father. The gust would easily send him a few feet up in the air, assuming he had startled the boy enough to cause him to let go of Tenzin's ears.
Without actually wait to see if it worked his eyes took in the scene that was inside the building. His daughters, and of course his lovely wife, were seated inside by the looks of things. His earlier gust had apparently blown some of the lighter objects about the table. Napkins, a decoration or two, and hopefully little else.
He strode through the doorway and smiled. He was home and he wouldn't have need, short of an emergency, to go back out for the rest of the day. He could actually spend some quality time with those he loved. With that thought his mind drifted toward Korra. Where was she? Probably practicing for the upcoming finals, or his father forbid, riding along on that dreadful task force...
No. He shook his head to clear it. He didn't need to think about that. It wasn't anything that would affect his lunch here and now. He found that the smile had slipped from his face and he hoped he was still far enough away from the rest of his family that they hadnt caught it.
He seated himself next to his wife and leaned over to kiss her, admiring the roundness of her belly. Another little one would be joining them soon. Hopefully another airbender, the better to help spread airbending back into the world. From this moment on Tenzin's family would be the new roots of Airbending. He knew, however, that Pema wished for just one non-bending child. He wanted so much to make her happy, but his father...
"My darling wife. How has your morning been?" He was genuinely interested in her day, and glad to be away from his.

Ikki's erratic mood quickly dissolved after her mother had embraced her. She loved getting hugs from her mommy. They were the best hugs in the world. Well, next to daddy's of course. Nobody gave better hugs than her daddy. Shifting in her seat she grinned at Jinora while Pema petted her hair. It felt nice to have her hair played with. Sometimes she'd ask Jinora to plait her hair, but her older sister was always too busy reading, or writing. If Meelo were a girl Ikki would ask him to do it, but he'd probably mess everything up and manage to get twigs or ink in her hair. Turning her small head back to peer up at her mother, Ikki listened quietly as Pema spoke and with a twinkle in her gray eyes she became ecstatic at her mommy's announcement that sea prunes were not on the menu today. "Oh goodie!" she squealed clasping her tiny fingers together into a small fist. "I really can't wait to eat now!"
Turning her sights toward the door Ikki crossed her legs beneath the table and tapping her fingers against her thighs she silently awaited the arrival of her father and little brother. Ikki wasn't interested in what Jinora or her mother had to say about books. In fact, Jinora had way too many books. What she needed was an adventure, a real adventure, not one that was printed on a piece of paper. With Meelo by her side they would think up something really fun to do, something that was so much fun that Jinora couldn't possibly resist the temptation to take part in their mischief. As she thought of such an adventure Tenzin and Meelo entered the Dinning Hall. She giggled as a small gust of air brushed her across the face. Her mommy scolded daddy of course for air bending inside, but there was nothing a kiss couldn't fix. "Meelo come sit next to me!" Ikki exclaimed noticing how preoccupied Tenzin was with Pema. She'd have her one on one time with her daddy soon enough. Besides, she needed Meelo's help to think of an adventure!
