The Fire Lord and the Avatar began the Harmony Restoration Movement to restore the Fire Nation Colonies to their pre-war state by bringing any Fire Nation nationals back home, but for many of the citizens — of mixed Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom … Read more ›

A Long Display Name Here Avatar
A small island off the coast of Yue Bay is home to a massive sculpture of Avatar Aang, built by the Fire Nation and serving as a symbol of peace and goodwill. Accessible only by boat, it is also a popular destination spot for newcomers and visitors to Republic City.

OOC: Karena, I beg your pardon for taking a few liberties. I can edit this post if necessary.

Tadashi loved passing by the large memorial to Avatar Aang on his way back from Air Temple Island. He couldn't say why for sure, though his brother once joked that it made sense for Tadashi to love a huge metal man. But it wasn't really for aesthetic reasons; it was more a sense of grand admiration... maybe even appreciation. An appreciation of his own for the work that the Airbending Avatar did while he was alive, as well as an appreciation for the Fire Nation's appreciation.

He laughed out loud a little bit at that. Being around the other Air Acolytes and absorbing the old teachings and meditations always made him wax philosophical. That kind of seriousness would have to be put on hold. He was looking forward to an afternoon hanging out with Ren'ai at the base of the great monument. She was a good friend, supportive of his decision to join the Air Acolytes as well as of his lifestyle.

Tadashi pulled his boat up to the northwestern dock, leapt lightly out of his craft — imagining he was an airbender as he did so — and tied it up securely before standing up and looking around. From here he could not see any clock towers, so he wasn't sure whether Ren'ai was here yet or not.

Ren’ai paid someone to take her across to Aang Memorial Island. This had been a very horrible morning for her. She had needed to go to work early, which was fine with her. It gave more time during the afternoon for other things, like training or hanging out with her friends. However, from the moment that she had woken up this morning, things had gone from bad to worse. Firstly, after the dark-haired young woman had woken up, she had stubbed her toe and thereby nearly set her room on fire. She had overcooked her breakfast, and then was almost late to work. The Firebender then had the busiest morning ever, and above all, got horrible and had also gotten hit on by some creepy old guy.

It had taken every ounce of patience that Ren’ai possessed not to send a fireball streaming towards his head, but while she didn’t like her job, it was her own money. She would hate to have to go back to her father and ask him to help buy her and Yuri’s bills. How lame was that, right? Of course, her boss had thought that she was over exaggerating and told her not to worry about the guy. She was not overly pretty she thought, though neither of her past boyfriends had complained about her looks, even though they had both thought she was a bit tomboyish. Sure, it had been over a year since her last boyfriend, but that didn’t mean that she was desperate or anything, far from it, actually. And she especially didn’t mean that she wanted some creepy old guy hitting on her.

Ren’ai walked onto Aang Memorial Island and looked around. She was meeting her friend, Tadashi, here. He was a good guy. Sure, she did not understand his wanting to be an Air Acolyte, but hey… to each their own, right? After all, she wanted to be a Probender, and some thought that wasn’t the best form of living. It didn’t matter to her, and if he wanted to be an Air Acolyte, that was fine with her. It was his life, and it was his decision however he wanted to live it. She didn’t have to understand, all she had to do was accept it. Besides, it made him happy, and of course, didn’t every friend want their friends to be happy? That’s what she thought. You were supposed to be happy if your friends were happy, and support them in anything they did – within reason, of course.

It didn’t seem as if Tadashi was here yet. She was still wearing her uniform, a pair of black pants, a white shirt, and an apron. Personally, Ren’ai hated it. It was horribly stuffy, in her opinion. Unfortunately, she hadn’t had time to go home and change if she was going to meet Tadashi. So, here she was, in her work uniform. Her long, black hair had needed to be up off her neck for work, so she put it in a bun. She was in the middle of taking her hair down when she saw her friend pull up. “Finally, you’re here,” she said. The Firebender honestly didn’t think he had been late, but she was frustrated. “I have had the worst day ever.” She finished taking her hair down, and threw it back into a ponytail.

“I stubbed my toe when I got up, had to stop myself from getting too upset so I wouldn’t burn my room down, burnt my breakfast, and then was nearly late to work,” Ren’ai said, telling him about the first part of her day. “Oh, but it didn’t stop there.” Her blue eyes had an angry glint in them, as she was still very frustrated. “We had the busiest day ever, my tips were horrible, and to top it all off, I got hit on by some creepy old dude.” The Firebender crossed her arms underneath her chest, a snarky smile crossing her face. “So, yeah, my day was horrible. How was your day?” She didn’t mean to take her frustrations out him, but she was upset right now, and hadn’t seen Yuri yet, so she had to vent to someone.

Tadashi's eyes opened wide as his friend's story came pouring out. When she finally got through everything, he didn't know what to say, but felt so bad for her. She needed consoling — not pity, not Ren'ai, she'd never stand for that. "Oh, Ren'ai," he frowned, "I'm so sorry. My day wasn't anything like yours." He sat down on the bank of the shore and motioned Ren'ai to sit by him as he took off his sandals and lowered his feet into the cool, clean water of the shallow surf. Aaah, relaxation.

"We just did a lot of the same at the Temple today," he went on, not really to compare his day to Ren'ai's but just to prattle on and take her mind off her own experiences. "Master Tenzin gave all the Acolytes a morning address, and then we went off to all our different tasks and lessons. I learned more about the Councils of Monks and Councils of Sisters today," he rolled his eyes a bit as he referred to the old ruling bodies of the extinct Air Nomads.

Tadashi knew what he was doing though. Even though he blew off his day, he had enjoyed the vast majority of it. Being an Acolyte made him feel like he was part of a great working, an effort to bring back the teachings and customs of the Air Nomads. And, being in the monastic class at the Temple made Tadashi feel less pressured to find a girlfriend — something he wasn't interested in at all, anyway.

"I saw that guy from the gardening class again today," he started up again, but the thought made something Ren'ai mentioned come back to the forefront of his mind, and he gasped again. "Wait. Back up. You said some creepy guy hit on you. You didn't kill him, I hope." He was only half-joking.

Ren’ai listened to Tadashi as he told her about his day. The dark-haired young woman knew that although he rolled his eyes, he still enjoyed being an Air Acolyte. He was calm, and she liked that sometimes. Yuri was much calmer then her; she just didn’t voice her feelings as much as when she wasn’t around her friends. The Firebender supposed that’s why she enjoyed her longtime Earthbender friends so much. Tadashi was calmer than her, and she supposed that was why the two of them get along so well. Someone had to stay calm around her, didn’t they? It wasn’t always like that, but it was nice not to have someone get as upset as she did all the time.

Ren’ai joined her friend along the shore, taking off her shoes and dipping them into the water. The tall young woman laid down beside him, putting her hands beneath his head. She gave a harsh laugh as she heard Tadashi’s comment about her killing the creepy old dude. “Ha, no, but oh, I wanted to, you have no idea,” she told him. “It took every ounce of patience I had not to send a fireball towards his head.” She gave a deep sigh, looking up at the sky before looking back over at her bald friend. “I mean what, why I don’t even understand! He was old enough to be my dad, even though he was probably ten of fifteen years younger than my dad, but that’s different.”

Ren’ai was so frustrated with everything right now. This was not the way things were supposed to go. “I hate my life right now, I really do,” she told him. “I’m a waitress! I mean… I just know that we could find a third member of our team, that Yuri and I could do it. My dad would sponsor us, I know he would…” She gave another sigh, looking back at the sky again before switching her blue gaze back to Tadashi again. “I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t get like this, but this isn’t what I want for my life.” She gave him a small smile. “You were saying about some guy from the gardening class? What guy was that again, I’m sorry?” She knew that she would remember once he told her, but for some reason, her mind was blank right now.

"Cradle robbers," Tadashi muttered, in regards to Ren'ai's creeper. But he kept listening, and when he could get a word in edgewise, he insisted, "Hun, I understand. I can't empathise, you know. I haven't been through everything you've been through. But I can sympathise at least." He huffed, a sharp exhale of breathe, and squinched up his toes as he went on, "There are plenty of talented waterbenders in the city. You can find someone. And when you do, I want to be your manager," he laughed.

Wincing a bit, he centered his weight to his tailbone and stretched his sore back, lacing his fingers together and pushing his palms up toward the sky. His body mentor had started him on a new, harder exercise routine during the noon hour, and this was only the second week. He liked to keep looking his best, but the curvature of his lower back caused him more than a few problems.

Tadashi tuned back in to hear Ren'ai ask her last question. He considered, blushing a bit, before answering. "Oh, the cute guy that was checking me out last week. I flirted with him a little bit today," he tried to answer nonchalantly, but a slight quaver in his voice gave him away. "He wanted to figure out what flower matched my eye colour." Nervously he grasped at his right tricep and rubbed his thumb up and down it, staring blankly out across the water back toward Air Temple Island, not quite sure what he should be feeling or whether this was anything other than a casual flirt. He always thought of Ren'ai as perceptive about those sorts of things.

OOC: Sorry about the delay, Taed. Storm brought internet issues…

Ren’ai laughed as Tadashi said he wanted to be their manager. “I’ll bring it up with Yuri later, Mr. Future Manager of the Dragon Hawks.” A smirk crossed the Firebender’s face. That was their choosen name – the Dragon Hawks. Obviously, they hoped that whoever ended up joining the team liked the name as much as they did. “At least we don’t have to worry about sponsors.” Her dad’s family had more than enough money. Evidentially, both of her mother’s parents had money – they had both been noble families in the Fire Nation. It meant her father had more than enough money. In fact, if she didn’t want to work she didn’t have to. However, the blue-eyed young woman had always felt that there was something different about her money versus her families money.

“And when we find a third member, you’ll be the first to know,” Ren’ai told him. Of course, they actually had to keep their third member. Emotion flashed in her blue eyes, and she knew that she couldn’t hide her feelings completely. She always wore her emotions on her sleeve, something that didn’t really bother her, but it did complicate things sometimes. She knew that she could be hard to deal with sometimes, and Yuri was no angel, but… if Tadashi could deal with her, than some Waterbender could, too, right? Well, if they could manage to be patient enough that she tried to control her power, and she was doing her best. She would have to work three times harder to make sure she did that way, if they did manage to find a third member to fill out their team, this time, they wouldn’t lose him or her.

Ren’ai noticed how her friend had winced a bit, and a worried glanced crossed her eyes. She quickly pushed it away, though. It was probably nothing, especially if it was something that he hadn’t said anything about. Besides, the Firebender wasn’t entirely sure of what his training consisted of. He quickly answered her question about what guy from gardening class that he had been talking about. A smile crossed her face as he talked. It was almost cute the way he was blushing. It was also cute the way he was trying to act as if he was all cool about it, but she saw right through that. How much does he really like this guy? she asked herself. Well, she was no mind reader, so there was only one thing that she could do to find out – she was going to have to ask, and tease him a bit in the process.

Ren’ai rolled over on her side, looking at him. “Oh, that guy,” she said, a teasing tone in her voice. “What are you going to do about it?” Her blue eyes searched his face for any kind of reaction to her words as she spoke. “He obviously likes you, so are you going to do something about it or wait until he makes his move first?” She gave him a light smack on his arm, the smirk still on her face. Obviously this guy liked Tadashi, or he wouldn’t bother trying to match eye colors and flowers, which she honestly thought was a bit silly. That didn’t matter, though, because evidentially, her Air Acolyte-in-training friend liked him back or he wouldn’t have bothered mentioning it. “So, what will it be?”

The thought of actually managing Yuri and Ren'ai's probending team was both exhilirating and frightening. Tadashi didn't doubt he could do it, but just the newness of the idea was daunting. Unfortuantely, as they kept coming back to, it was finding a waterbender that would stick around that was the real problem.

Ren'ai's heckling brought Tadashi back to his romantic problems, and made him smile — for a moment. Then he curled himself up into a ball, more in response to his own uncertainty than to the impending bruise on his arm, and sighed. "I... don't know. I don't know what to do. I don't know." He stared blankly out at the bay for a few more seconds, and let a loud growl of frustration escape as he collapsed onto his back against the dune grass. "There should be a manual or something! This is the first guy I've had a serious crush on since I realised I liked them! How do you do this?!" He groaned and put his arms over his face.

It was kind of funny — a distant part of his mind noted — that Tadashi and Ren'ai were both so frustrated by something, and that they could help each other out, but not themselves. His teacher at the Air Temple called that "mutualism." Insofar as Tadashi was concerned, it was a great concept in theory, but it circumvented the ideal of strengthening yourself through your own experiences.

Abruptly Tadashi decided that moping wasn't going to do anything, and he sat up and looked seriously at Ren'ai. "Whatever. Don't worry about that right now. Let's get back to that Dragon Hawks bit. Where do you think we're likely to find some talented waterbenders just itching to join a pro bending team?" He started thinking feverishly... the docks, the marketplace, the city park...

Ren’ai laughed at Tadashi’s frustration. She wasn’t laughing because she thought it was funny that he was so frustrated, she was laughing because… okay, so that was the reason. She was not “experienced” in any sense of the word; at least she didn’t feel that having two non-serious boyfriends qualified you as experienced. Then again, maybe it did when neither of your friends had any experience with dating at all. Wow, that was just weird to think that she was the experienced one of the three. How in the world did that even happen? Shrugging it off, the dark-haired young woman knew that she was not about to let Tadashi off the hook when it came to this guy that he liked. “Oh, no, you don’t,” she told him, shaking her finger at him. “You’re not getting off the hook that easily.”

Ren’ai smirked at him. “Listen, this is what you’re going to do,” she told him. “Next time you see him and he flirts with you again, if he doesn’t ask you out first – and he should, judging by the fact that he’s been flirting with you it seems – you’re going to ask him if he would like to talk over tea, because you would like to get to know him better.” She paused for a second to let that sink in. “If that fails… well, he’s an idiot and you can better.” The Firebender shrugged, finding the whole situation amusing. Sure, she had been nervous when she had first gone out with her first boyfriend and to a degree her second one as well, but hey… dating was part of life, in her opinion. It just wasn’t in the cards for her right now, at least not as far she thought. If someone came along and wanted to go out with her, that was fine. She wasn’t ready to get married, she was fairly sure of that.

Ren’ai decided that was probably teasing of her Air Acolyte friend, so she allowed the change of subject to continue. “As for where to find a new Waterbender…” The tall young woman gave a groan and kicked the water. It splashed back a little on both of them, though it was only a little water. “Everywhere!” This was very frustrating. “The city is crawling with Waterbenders! We’ve already gone through, what, how many? Four in the past two years, or has it been more?” She didn’t know what else to do. “If only Ryouko or Jin would just do it. I mean, they can deal with me, they’re my brothers!” Neither was interested in being a Probending athlete, though. Both were married with lives. Ryouko already had a child, and Jin had on the way. Nothing was very that easy, at least not as far she knew.

Ren’ai did have another brother, Sukoshi, but he was too young for Probending, despite any possible interest he might have. The kid was, after all, only eleven. That left no possible options that she knew of personally. “I mean, what are we going to do? Go and put up posters around the city, asking for any interested Waterbenders who want to be a Probender but don’t have a team to come and find me either at Pong Apartments or Watashi's Restaurant?” It seemed kind of silly, but what else were they supposed to do? Go around and ask every person that they could see if they were a Waterbender and if they wanted to be a Probender? That was even more ridiculous, not to mention that Republic City was big. Even posters seemed silly, but she didn’t know what else to do. Nothing else was coming to mind.

Ren’ai gave another kick to the water. She chose this life, so any frustrations she was feeling were her choice. Ever since she was little, she and Yuri had wanted to be Probenders. With neither of her older brothers showing interest, they had known they would need to find a third member. Of course, neither her or her Earthbending friend had taken into consideration that people would get so frustrated with the Team Captain that they’d quit. Yeah, that’s right – she was the Team Captain. Yuri had said that she would much rather support her than do it herself, which was fine. She didn’t mind. It kind of made her feel even more responsible for everything bad that was going on.

Ren’ai knew that she could have chosen the easy life. Her father’s family had plenty of money. Her father, Tasukete, had still worked for many years, as had her mother, Kyouko. So, the Firebender could have played the part of the bored rich girl, never having to work, just laying around the house, learning how to manage a household from her mother. That wasn’t what she wanted, she had chosen to try to start a Probending team, move out on her own, and work for a living.

“So, what are we going to do, Team Manager? What does a Team Manager do anyway?”

See, this was why Tadashi liked his feisty firebending friend. She had a knack for cutting to the heart of the matter — often bluntly and sometimes tactlessly. She'd laid out in a few simple sentences the most obvious and easiest plan of action, and wasn't really giving Tadashi much choice in the matter. He could imagine the scenario perfectly... the cute, silly pick-up line that his opposite would start with, Tadashi bravely blurting out his invitation... but then the dark half of my imagination kicked into overdrive and he imagined a dozen or more rejection responses. He clutched his right arm again instinctively, but made another attempt at apathy as he answered Ren'ai. "Tea. I can do that. It's casual, non-committal. Piece of cake." Spirits above and sea around, as his grandmother was so fond of "cussing," he thought.

As conversation turned toward the probending team idea again, Tadashi slowly loosened his grip on himself and his face grew more animated, following Ren'ai's thought processes with rapid facial expressions and reactions. The most violent reaction was to her outrageous suggestion — "Your brothers?! Are you nuts? I swear you don't have any room for logic in that head of yours, with all your impetuous instincts!" he teased a little bit. "Having a family member on your probending team is the worst idea I've ever heard of. Your older brothers would try to boss you around, and you'd try to boss your younger brother around! That's out. Forget it." He glared at her mockingly.

The lights shifted on the surface of the water and cast dancing reflections across the sand and dune grass around them, playing off their faces and clothes. Tadashi smiled at Ren'ai, dressed in an apron of servitude, shouting grievances and annoyances, planning to take the probending championship with an incomplete team. This was the epitome of youthful camaraderie and fun. Our lives to plan and share, without the heavy load of responsibility that comes in only a few short years, he thought. And shuddered.

"Hmm," he mused in response to her next non-rhetorical question. "As far as I can tell, a Team Manager tells you everything you're doing wrong, without knowing how to get you to do it right!" He laughed at himself and then added, "Seriously though, I think it's just like arranging practice times and places, taking care of your publicity, keeping track of tournament fees and other expenses, stuff like that. I've got a mind for organisation, at least. And I can be at most of your matches; they don't usually happen during the day while I've got Temple instruction, right?" He chewed on his lip and then said, more to himself than to Ren'ai, "Grandma won't mind me helping you out, as long as I'm staying out of trouble."

Ren’ai laughed loudly at Tadashi’s comment about asking the guy out being a piece of cake. It was amusing that he was nervous, even though she knew it was mean for her to think that. What else was she supposed to do, though? Let her friend just be all shy and just flirt around this guy? Nah, that didn’t make any sense. If you wanted something, you had to go for it. That’s what her mother had always told her, and she believed it – no matter how much she tended to resent her parents. The dark-haired young woman almost decided to press the issue with her Air Acolyte friend, but then decided against it. He seemed more comfortable when the conversation was a different issue. She knew this was new territory for him, so she would just have to be patient – not one of her strong suits.

The conversation had turned back to Probending, and Tadashi wasted no time in criticizing her comments about one of her brothers being on her team. “Hey, it works for some people, I’m sure,” Ren’ai told him. “I would never let my older brothers boss me around. I’m Team Captain, after all, no matter what they say, and my little brother isn’t old enough, remember?” The Firebender shrugged. “It doesn’t matter, cause neither of my older brothers aren’t interested.” She wouldn’t let anyone boss her around on her team, because she was Team Captain. Her best friend and fellow team member was always there to make sure that she didn’t do something she’d end up regretting, but still… she was Team Captain, and that was just all there was to that as far as she concerned.

Ren’ai laughed at his comments about what a Manager did. “Yep, that sounds about right,” she told Tadashi. “I think you’d do just fine.” She didn’t make a comment about the Team Manager not really knowing how to fix things but telling them that they were wrong anyway. It was an amusing thought. “At least we don’t have to worry about funds. My dad said if we made it in, he’d pay for everything.” She knew that part of the reason was because her old man didn’t honestly believe that she and Yuri could do it. “Yes, matches are always at night from what I know.” The Firebender had never heard of a match taking place during the day, so she figured that was a safe assumption. She knew how important his temple stuff was to him, she she’d never ask her friend to compromise that.

Ren’ai’s mind slipped back to her parents again. Were parents right? Should she just concentrate on settling down, and forget all of this working and Probending stuff? The dark-haired young woman knew how much they disapproved of it all. She didn’t need to work; she didn’t need to worry about Probending stuff. She loved Probending, which was why she did it. She worked because she wanted her own money, and not stuff that she was just inheriting. Besides, what guarantee was it that she was going to inherit a lot? She did, after all, have three brothers. Wouldn’t her parents money be split between the four of them? Unless she married a rich guy, she needed to work so she’d have her own money, and not have to worry about however much she inherited. Well, her parents wanted her to marry some rich businessman’s son or something.

Ren’ai wasn’t sure that was life was for her, though.

Tadashi nodded and grinned, like his mind was already made up. And it was, of course; once he came to a conclusion, he generally stuck with it. His indecision just made it difficult to get to the conclusion all the time.

"Right then," he said, standing up and brushing the sand off of his pants and robe. "The afternoon is still young. Ish. As your unofficial Team Manager, I suggest we canoe back over to the mainland and get some food, and maybe go to the park and watch for some good waterbenders. The sooner we get a complete team together, the sooner we can register for a tournament. You game for a little scouting?" He grabbed a little handful of sand from the beach and gently rubbed it against the sides of his face. He wasn't sure what he looked like after a day of education and exercise, and a little exfoliation never hurt.

As he sanded down his jawline, he looked out across the bay one more time. Living in Republic City was... amusing to him somehow. His mother had raised Katashi and him on stories of their recent ancestors — Grandma Sora, Great-Grandpa Tadashi and Great-Grandma Etsuko, and even the old Tadashi's mother Riko. Firebenders all, except for Etsuko. They all fought, made allies, and contested the rest of the Fire Nation's desire to conquer all during the Hundred Years War, and when Republic City was founded they were quick to move to the city as it embodied all their ideals.

Now, equality meant jack in a city where the divide between the wealthy and the gutter rats was wider than ever, and Tadashi, a non-bender despite his family's impressive pedigree, was really trying to do the same thing. He didn't remember if he'd actually explained to Ren'ai what this team meant to him, but for him it was a new realisation of his great-grandfather's last great wish — Fire, Earth, Air, and Water, re-combined into a glorious cooperative effort. Even if he could never actually be an airbender himself.

Shaking off his philosophical funk, he went to the edge of the water to rinse off the sticking sand and added on to his earlier suggestion, "We might be able to grab Yuri too, if she's not busy."

Yuri woke up in plenty of time to splash some cold water on her face and brush out her hair. Today did not feel like a makeup day to her so all she did was smear on some pink lipstick after she made her breakfast, today she had to be in before Ren`ai so she made herself a quick breakfast and washed her dishes before running out the door. A pair of black pants with a black shirt was her uniform for doing deliveries because a white shirt would show any dust that got on her from her motor bike.

Today was a great day no one mistook her for a guy, and a few of the people gave her some nice tips. So things were looking up for sure. But she was running around so much that it was quitting time before she knew it and she had not had time to stop all day to eat anything. But it is a funny thing that sometimes you are in such a rush that you don’t realize that you’re hungry. The Earth-bender remembered that her roommate had wanted to meet up after work, so she figured that maybe they could get a bite to eat as well. She rented a canoe and paddled across to the island, a part of her was always in awe as she gazed at the metal statue of Avatar Aang. She was told what a great man he was and how much he accomplished during his life, in a way it was very inspiring. She saw her dark haired friend sitting on the ground next to a young man that they both were friends with and caught the end of their conversation.

“Well Taddashi you don’t have to look very far.” The tall green eyed girl said to her male friend and glanced over to her oldest friend giving her a smile. “I don’t think that we will have much trouble finding a waterbender in the park if you set something small on fire. I am sure that would attract a bit of attention our way.”

She was in a good mood so just a little bit of joking seemed like it was in order at the moment. And besides she should be able to share some of her good fortune with her friends.

“Dinner is on me tonight and dessert if we could find ourselves a good watterbender. So what does my Captain and our new Manager say to that?” She asked them with a grin on her lips.

OOC: Taed, feel free to move us to the Park. :)

Ren’ai shrugged, raising an eyebrow as she watched him sand his face. The Firebender didn’t ask what he was doing, and just laid there on the ground, watching him do it. After he was done and spoke to her again, the young woman stood up, stretching her hands above her head. It seemed… almost too easy, after two years of training – and failing – to fill that third spot. They couldn’t just go down to the park and just… find someone, but the idea of putting up posters around town seemed kind of silly, too. What else were they supposed to do then? They had to find some way to find a willing Waterbender to join their team, and she wasn’t coming up with any better ideas. It was just then that Yuri walked up, being cheerful. The shorter of the two didn’t know why, and honestly didn’t really care right now.

“Oh, yeah, sure, that’ll work,” Ren’ai said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “It would also probably get me arrested in the process or something like that. That’s the last thing we need.” No Waterbender and no Firebender or Team Captain either. Fabulous… Part of her knew that she shouldn’t take the fact that she has a bad mood out on Yuri, who had obviously not had such a horrible day. The other part just felt that there was something wrong when someone else was in a good mood and you weren’t. She wasn’t sure why that was, and right now, she didn’t care. She was frustrated with her life in its entirety right now and her mood wasn’t making things any better. She had almost forgotten about how bad a day she had until Yuri walked over all perky and happy for some odd reason her best friend didn’t care about right now.

“Do you honestly think that we’ll find a Waterbender just by going to the park and looking?” Ren’ai asked Tadashi and Yuri. It almost seemed silly after all their time of looking and losing Waterbenders that they’d find what they needed just by going to the park and looking for a Waterbender. It seemed silly that it would be that easy. Nothing in life was that easy, or it wasn’t supposed to be anyway. Then again, they’d spent about two years going between not having a Waterbender to having one for a while and then losing said Waterbender. Even if they found one there was no guarantee that they’d keep him or her. It hadn’t worked well so far. Did that mean they were doomed for failure? Or did it that mean that it was just a matter of time before they found the right person? “Well, let’s go then.”

Yuri's cheerful arrival was a breath of fresh air, one that seemed like it would bring Ren'ai around to his — their — way of thinking. Optimism, and keep on trying. There was no sense in letting the failures of the past, however repeated, cloud the possibility of success in the present. Tadashi grinned. The Acolytes are getting through to me after all with their patient mumbo-jumbo talk.

"Good evening to you, Yuri," he gave a half-mocking bow and then saluted before turning to Ren'ai. "Even Yuri agrees with me, and you know how stubborn those Earthbenders are," he ribbed right back. Ren'ai needed cheering up, for sure. Even this sort of silliness didn't entirely rouse the firebender from her moodiness... but the sarcasm was a positive step. Humour of any kind meant there was hope for a brighter outlook. He waited, patiently, knowing that in a few moments Ren'ai would buckle.

And then there it was. "Of course I do," he answered her question. "Or, at least, it's more likely find a Waterbender there than here. The island isn't that big, we'd see anyone else here, or see them pull up. You want to find a person, you go to where the people are." He stopped himself, though, as Ren'ai finally conceded. "Perfect." He chewed his lip for a moment, looking at the three canoes tied up at the dock. "Shame we all came separately. If we do get a waterbender, we may want to see what we can rig up about getting our own iceberg ferry or something. Anyway." He led the way to the boats, and offered a hand to the girls before he stepped into his own transport.

OOC: On it. Posting in the Park.
