Cold air flooded into Master Pakku's nose, manifesting itself as chi flow. Since he'd joined the Order of the White Lotus, he'd had the opportunity to study the bending styles of Firebenders, something he'd never be able to do otherwise. He found it fascinating how they used their own energy to manifest their element as opposed to Waterbenders, who merely guided the chi of theirs. Unfortuantely, he'd never been able to grasp the concept of Earthbending regardless of how many times Bumi had tried explaining it to him.
A smile crossed his face as he opened his eyes, holding one palm upward to the sky. Taking a sharp breath in through his nose, he concentrated and curled his fingers in, tensing them. Out of nowhere, seemingly, an orb of water appeared. There had been a few times in his life where he'd been without water to bend, and that had been something that had scared him more than any bender ever could; he vowed that he'd find a way to make sure that it would never happen again. After spending some time in the Earth Kingdom quite a few years ago, he'd managed to discover that he could pull water out of the air, which meant that, not only would he never be out of water, but he'd also be able to augment any water he was bending. It had come in handy ever since he'd perfected it.
Kanna eyed Akado sagely.
"I see. He was apparently upset by your refusal and is worried that your impudence would affect your ability to assist in the Restoration efforts. I, on the other hand, believe that this won't be an issue. Unfortunately, Master Pakku is instrumental in repairing the damage done to the ice sheets in a timely fashion, so we advise that you refrain from working with him whenever possible. I believe this will be made easier once his students arrive from the North," she said, earning nods from the council members around her.
"If I may ask, why did you refuse to assist him?" she asked.

((Let’s see if you can figure out why Akado feels this way. I’ll try and lay down more clues.))
Him, instrumental? Akado, not being one to toot his own horn, knew that if all the benders from the south united under the light of the full moon, then they could do it. Master Pakku’s aid, though generous, was not fully needed. He had spoken with the council about that matter many days after the minor fractures and faults were repaired. But still, if they didn’t want him to intrude, then he wouldn’t. However, just as he was prepared to get up; Kanna spoke again, in question.
That was good question. Why did he refuse Master Pakku’s command? The simple answer was because he didn’t want to be humiliated or treated like some mindless animal for the man’s petty amusement. However, there was more to his defiance than something as simple as not wanting to be humiliated. As with most things in general, there was always more to the picture than the surface. There were reasons behind the actions presented, motives behind the people being viewed; there existed a story behind Akado’s defiance.
Whenever he looked at that man, the waterbender wasn’t filled with hatred or any really deep seeded, negative emotions. His feelings were more, bitter than animosity. Considering how the Tribe was filled with anticipation for Master Pakku’s arrival, it surprised the Southern Water Tribesman that he was acting the way he was.
“I’m sorry to say that they are childish reasons. I don’t know why, but I feel bitter when I see the man, like he owes me something, but he doesn’t. And yet, that isn’t why I was defiant. I did what I did because I expected him to be his rude and belittling self in the lesson. I dealt with it once, and if it’s not required, then I’d much rather not deal with it again.”

Pakku dispelled the water ball, trying to focus his energy elsewhere. He sorely wished that the full moon hadn't already passed; it only served to make him an even more powerful bender. He imagined that, during a full moon, he could cinch himself as the most powerful Waterbender in the world, but he hesitated to place such a title on himself. Of course, the Avatar, once fully realized, would possess that title, but as things were, it looked like he could take that title if he so chose; however, he was perfectly happy being called Master, as it gave people a good idea of his skill without over-hyping him.
The thought of being an extremely powerful Waterbender under a full moon made him think of the Siege of the North and how he and every other Waterbender in the world had lost their power for a seemingly endless period of time. As he didn't possess great skill in any martial art, he had been completely powerless. It had been a scary feeling, as he'd never lost his power before, but it had been a humbling experience; he'd gained more of an appreciation than ever that he was such a powerful bender.
Kanna paused to think.
"From my understanding, Master Pakku ran his lessons as he usually does and always has. You of all people should know that he lacks a certain...tact...when dealing with his students," she said, clasping her hands and resting them on the table.
"However, it seems you, like many others, have issues when it comes to him, so I'll leave this alone and advise you to pair yourself up with one of his students when they arrive. Until then, if you have any more problems with him, I suggest coming to either myself or...speaking to Master Pakku about it directly. Do you have anything else you wish to discuss with us?"

((Well my jaw is feeling better))
With regret, Akado bowed his head before speaking, “No. There is nothing else, thank you.”
After the motions to leave were given, the waterbender got to his feet and walked out the snowy building. Although it should have come as relief to Akado; it didn’t. In a way, he was given the opportunity to no longer sully his hands with Pakku’s insults, but he still felt off. Thinking about it, he couldn’t realize why. There was no genuine hate when he thought about his former instructor; however, he knew that when he saw the smug looking man he’d be filled with negative emotions. Being a humble man, these ideas didn’t sit well with Akado. He shouldn’t feel this way. If the tribe was ever to be repaired, then he had to swallow whatever it was that he felt, and do what needed to be done.
As he rounded the hut, he could hear the steps are jovial chattering of children. They were still able to look beyond their current position, and enjoy life. On the other hand, he was still unable to turn the page after the siege. The troubled waterbender was never a man for war. As such when he was called to it he failed to properly be a soldier. It wasn’t for a lack of trying, as his memory served him, Akado was able to do a fair amount of damage on a few Fire Nation soldiers, but because of his skills he was unable to protect his wife. His bending faltered when required, and strangely enough it was the only time that it had failed him.
Like a child, he walked to the edge of the tribe all the while wringing his hands. With gentle motions, he walked out and onto the blanketed field. There wasn’t much in this place. Just snow, ice, water, frigid air, and a blinding sun… he never should have come here. He should have stayed with his daughter and her husband; at least then, he would have enjoyed the company.
The waterbender paused before advancing more and turned back to the tribe. It was still prominent through his vision, and he could faintly smell the breakfast meal of fried fish meat. On any other day, the allure would have drawn him back, but his hunger failed to overcome the brain. He didn’t feel like eating, so he turned around and walked. There was no destination, he just had to walk, to forget his sorrow.

The rest of the day passed relatively uneventfully, save for a trek out to the empty ice fields to survey the damage to the sheets via Waterbending. The cracks ran down the depth of the slabs, and it would take a substantial amount of time to fix; however, the combined efforts of a Master, his most promising students, and Akado, would make short work of it. Should the work take a month, spirits forbid, the added strength that the full moon provided would allow them to complete their work in a night.
After surveying, he retired to his tent and requested to the council that he not be disturbed. He needed to plan things out for the workload they were taking on the next day; his plans were disrupted, however, when Aarluk poked his head into the tent.
"M..Master Pakku? I know you requested not to be disturbed, but I think that there's something you need to see," the man said, looking and sounding extremely nervous. Pakku sighed and got up, nodding as he slipped his coat and gloves on.
Aarluk led him out of the village and to the water's edge.
"What was it that I needed to see?" he asked, scanning the water for anything suspicious.
"This," Aarluk replied, pointing downward. Resting against the edge of the ice sheet was a block of clear ice with something embedded in the center, and Pakku bent it up on a stream of water to his hands. Squinting against the sun, he realized that there was something in there with his name on it, and a quick, indiscernible motion melted the block.
When he got a better look at what was inside, he realized that it was a scroll made of animal hide that had been waterproofed; from within, he produced a White Lotus Pai Sho tile.
"Thank you for bringing this to my attention, Aarluk," he said, giving the man a courteous nod and hoping he would get the hint that he was no longer needed. Aarluk did, and he smiled as he walked away.
When the council member was gone, Pakku waved his hand over the water below him and froze it, waiting patiently. After a few moments, the surface of the ocean started to stir and something came up from the water, quickly making its way to shore. As it got closer, he realized that it was a Waterbender riding on a large canoe, propelling it with arm motions. It stopped when it reached the shore and the bender jumped out.
"Greetings, Master Pakku. I bring you word from the North Pole. I delivered your message by eel hound and your students will arrive tomorrow at midday," the messenger said, bowing respectfully.
"Excellent. Have you heard any news from the others?" he asked.
"Kaji is in Gaoling, inspecting some potential merchandise. Other than that, there is no word from the others," the Waterbender replied.
"Very well. Give Kaji my regards," Pakku said finally, earning a nod from the bender, who got back on the boat and sped away. With that, he turned back to the village and walked back to his tent, where he closed the flap and continued to plan for tomorrow.

((I see the message was sent, and Kai I ask that you hold off on moving Pakku until after I am able to make Iroh communicate with some Lotus Eater.))
There was a loneliness that constantly wrapped itself around Akado. It never cared about what the situation was or how was he feeling, all it did was smother him in pain. Among the white, blinding wastelands of the Antarctic, the middle-aged waterbender meandered around with this Kevorkian blanket. The bender had sought some kind of refuge in this place, and he was unfortunately unable to find any. Instead, those thoughts about his wife and sons seemed to prop themselves up at any moment.
She was a good woman. Not the prettiest or brightest, but she always acted with good intentions. She never feigned kindness or happiness, but instead genuinely appreciated the things she had. Having spent most of his life with her, Akado knew he would suffer in her absence. He missed her smell, voice, mannerisms, and even that laugh that was more like a squeal than anything else. If there was anyone that best embodied what a Northern Water Tribe wife was supposed to be, then it was none other than her. With gentle poise and whispers, she woke him up day after day. There was no other woman like her, and he never got to say goodbye. Sure, he’d said it many times before, but when it really mattered, he just rushed off into the battle. He should have run off with the others instead of acting as something he wasn’t.
Soldier…ha! This man was no soldier. He was born a pauper and that was all he had known or would ever be. To make him fight was a mistake, to insinuate that he could appreciate the honor of civil service was the same as spouting bile. Like his father had always said, they were simple people with basic needs…
The snow was surprisingly fluffier the farther away he got from the village. It wasn’t as padded down or blinding as the mirrors behind him. Still, it wasn’t comforting; it was just snow; the color of the mittens his wife wore. Like a child, Akado softly kicked the snow below him. It jumped and airily landed back down. Looking up, Akado was able to note the emptiness of the sky, and how lucky they were that blizzards hadn’t struck them. In fact, according to the women, this season was surprisingly absent of any snowfall. There were occasion powdering, most of which lasted less than an hour, but any heavy snowfall was late.
Eventually, Akado reached an incline, and with resentment scaled it. He didn’t want to overexert himself, but this was in his way, so he had to walk it. After a few grudging minutes of heavy footing, the waterbender finally made up, and looking out, he could see a small group of penguins waddling on an ice sheet many yards away. They looked so peaceful with their poor footing, and reminded Akado of the way his children all waddled when they were around the age of two. That rushed the blood to his face, and the trouble water tribesman looked away in sorrow. His eyes were feeling hot, and he couldn’t help but blink a few tears out. They were wiped away by his left hand, and then collected on the bottom of his newly formed fist.
Now, in his eyesight, was a ‘beached’ Fire Nation ship with its bloody flag still able to mock his loss. He felt angry, then, not at the Fire Nation, but at himself. If he had stayed with his wife, then he could have at least helped prevent the massacre that happened when the Fire Nation soldiers broke through their defenses. If he had the insight to think ahead, then maybe he could have died saving the lives of children and women, instead of protecting their stupid, ridiculously, ineffective city wall.
In a fit of incomprehensible frustration, Akado bent forward, writhed while shaking his fists, and then let himself fall on his bottom. His mouth was wide open as he heaved heavily while his spittle trickled down his mouth and onto his arnook. In confusion, he scooped handfuls of snow, and watched, absentmindedly, as water now replaced the cold snow he held. As he lifted his arms up to his face, his sleeves fell back and the water trickled down much like the fluid that emptied from his mouth, only faster. These were his tears. He could control them, unlike his, and could will them when he wanted.
Both hands soon found themselves covering face to palm with Akado. When they lowered, they marked their path with disfigured skin and near the end blood. Akado forced himself to swallow what felt like a rock at the back of his throat. When it passed, he fell forward onto the snow, melting it away, hoping to drown in his pity. But with his emotions, he couldn’t connect with his element, and instead what was to be his death bowl was more of a puddle with streaks leading down the sides and away from the sad man.
In failure, Akado rolled over, and let the cold, biting water trickle down his face. He could control these ones. If he couldn’t properly shed his own, then he would these ones.

((I hope you don’t mind the timeskip. I figured Akado would there for a few hours before hunger and the cold forced him back.))
After his little breakdown, Akado remained where he last lay. His icy blue eyes remained fixed on the clear blue, and his body remained in the small pool of water; continually losing heat and pushing itself closer to the end. Slowly, as it had done for many hours, the troubled waterbender’s head bobbed around as it floated on the water. It was painful, at first, but slowly the biting became nibbling and then numbness.
It had been quite some time since the bender fell, and with the sun approaching its midday mark time was slowly encroaching on the hour of his return. If he could he would remain out here and die, alone as he deserved. Unfortunately, he had a duty to the people of the Southern Water Tribe, his people. He needed to stand up, and return to the tribe before he froze himself to death or became too ill to work. Still, even with those thoughts, he just couldn’t bring himself to move. Try as he might, which wasn’t much; the brown man couldn’t muster up the strength to get out from his gutter. He jut didn’t really want to do it. The water tribesman closed his eyes, and thought back to a time when life had meaning and purpose.
His children needed him for most of his life, and being a good, decent man, Akado did what he could to provide for them. It wasn’t right that he should live and not them. They were young and full of life, unlike the weathered carapace that survived them. Even as men, he still saw them as his children, his sons. They were real soldiers, trained to fight, and yet that wasn’t enough to help them survive. They died painful deaths, denied the fate they rightfully deserved. Four horrible burns and a spear to the gut are what Suluk received and young Yakone was beaten so badly that he drowned in his own blood. They were deaths unworthy of their character, and they haunted him. It was a chilling thought that two men at their prime were unable to survive, and yet he did.
Those Fire Nation were savages.
With little hesitation, he dipped his head into the pool it floated on, and was started by the sensation. All around his face, it felt as if needles were being jabbed into him, and as quickly as it came was how quickly he pulled up and out from it. With gasps, he tried to alleviate himself of the shock, and with his hands he rubbed the pain away. Turning to the little pool, he was surprised to see that it was dyed a pale red. With hesitation, he rubbed the back of his head, and was surprised that the texture didn’t worry him. Having little else to do there, the bender got up, and proceeded forward toward the tribe.
It would have been an easy walk, but from his early, suicidal attempt, the hill was streaked with ribbons of ice, and still in a melancholically stupor, Akado paid little attention to the start visual appearance of the ground and slid on a stripe halfway down. Like a rag doll, he fell, buckling and serving whichever which way, until he reached the end. Rather than get up, the bender remained there, facedown, pitiful and empty. Five seconds passed before he pushed himself up, and even that only got Akado into a kneeling position. This place was so cold, and finally having enough of it, Akado pulled the water from his hair and face off and tossed it aside. Then, he got to his feet and headed back to the Southern Water Tribe.

The spy was out of sight quicker than he cared to admit; Po had always had a knack for translating grace into speed to accomplish feats of Waterbending that would have been almost impossible for any other Waterbender to accomplish, but that came at the cost of not being able to grasp water for extended periods of time. Such was the nature of the art.
It was fickle work, but he'd finally completed his plans. It would be slow going, especially since none of the students he was teaching were familiar with the methods of Northern Style Waterbending. It was strange, but it seemed like the people who'd founded the Southern Water Tribe had been adamant on setting themselves apart as much as they possibly could from the tribe they'd broken off from, but did that mean completely eradicating all elements of Northern culture?
With a sigh, he rolled the parchment he'd been writing on up and put it in a tube to set it aside where he could find it later. Sure, the lessons should be second nature to him after all his teaching experience, but it was helpful to have them written down just in case...
Almost on instinct, he shifted his thoughts elsewhere. Thinking of his own mortality was something he didn't particularly enjoy doing, but it came up a lot after the erasure of the moon. Thank the spirits it had been restored. In an effort to keep his thoughts from drifting into unpleasant territory, he extinguished the oil lamp and climbed into his sleeping bag, feeling warmth as the fur covered him. He could feel himself drifting off to sleep...
...but he was woken up as soon as he felt drowsy.
He cursed inaudibly and slipped out of the sleeping bag, putting his coat on to stave off the cold. Why couldn't he get to sleep? It didn't make any sense, but he was doomed to stay awake all evening, as he could never get back to sleep when he woke up, even if it meant not sleeping the entire night. He took a deep breath and faced himself with the reality that he would be awake before the sun.
Perhaps the biggest annoyance of all-nighters was the lack of things to do, so he spent the evening drawing designs in the ice floor of his tent with bending, reviewing the complete history of the Order of the White Lotus in his head before peeking out of his tent flap to see the sun coming up. With a groan, he got up and exited the tent, making his way to the eager students that awaited his instruction.
Unfortunately for him, the lack of sleep was taking a serious toll on him, as he had to pause the lesson several times to get his mind back on track. He managed to complete teaching it without making a complete ass of himself and was glad to see the children leave, but he couldn't attempt to go back to sleep yet. He had to wait for the arrival of his students.
Wonderful. He was getting cranky. This always happened when he didn't get sleep, and he was surprised that he hadn't been hard on his class. Unfortunately for them, the students tended to be the most convenient targets for his frustration at not having slept the previous night, but most of the time, they just chalked it up to his sour and pessimistic nature.
Annoyed, he made his way to the outer edges of the village and spotted Akado walking back, and he couldn't help but laugh when he saw the younger man take a spill down a mound of snow. It seemed to be just the thing that would appeal to his sense of humor in his current state of mind, but his sadistic mirth faded as he realized that it would still be some time before his students arrived. Without stopping, he made his way to the store and bent a seat out of ice with one fluid motion, sitting on top of it and looking out to sea.

As he neared the tribe, Akado quickly lifted his hood and covered his head. He tried his best to mask the jagged shapes that littered his face, as well as the dried blood that lined the lower half of his face. The troubled bender’s eyes looked leftward and noted Master Pakku, in response Akado turned a smidge bit rightward, and masked most of his face with the white fur that lined the hood. That wasn’t his only obstacle, once he entered the tribe there would be multiple witnesses.
Coming in, he turned left and avoided two chattering women, when he reached the first tent; he turned right, walked past two more tents, and then entered the only one in front of himself. Inside was a safe haven, he knew the woman that slept here.
Akado took a few steps forward, and then jointly removed his hood and spoke. “Nala.”
“Akado—wha…sit down.”
Without hesitation, the damaged bender pressed forward, and then sat himself on the brown cushion of the otherwise empty tent.
His eyes were blank as they narrowed in on the young woman’s round face and bright blue eyes. The typical examination then took place. Her warm fingers firmly grasped his jaw bone and then gently rotated his head. As she prodded and touched his face, Akado couldn’t help but feel bad about what he was doing.
“Well, it’s been what, five days since I last saw you like this?”
The healer’s disappointed sigh brought guilt to her patient. He knew well that what he was doing was wrong. There was variety in his methods, but they always ended in this tent, and with this sole woman. Thankfully, this magical art helped to mask what was going on.
When the pressure on his face lessened and vanished, he turned his head and followed her with his eyes. There was an art to healing, like waterbending. Different water carried different properties. As he had been told, by Nala, the reparative properties of water were able to be enhanced using specific “recipes.” However, even if the water was specific to the injury, unless the healer had the skill to use it properly heal, then not much would happen.
As he witnessed her waterbend, he quickly closed his eyes and relaxed the damaged area, like many times before. There was that distinct sound and strangely tingling sensation. To be healed was an indescribable; it was like describing how growing felt, but at the same time it could be described. It was warm, then cold, and over.
“Almost like magic.” Softy iterated Akado.
“But it’s not magic. It’s waterbending, and it has limits. If you keep on doing this to yourself at some point you won’t heal properly and be left with a scar.”
A scar. Was that all?
“A scar is the least of my worries, Nala.”
“I know, but if you want to do what you asked me to do then stop it.”
He sighed and then began, “If it comes to that, then I’ll just move ‘em to where no one will look.” A soft smile crossed his face as he looked back at Nala.
She laughed and then added, “If no one can look, then I won’t, and you’ll be left alone.”
How lovely. A small smile stretched across Akado’s newly repaired face, and as he rose to his feet he graciously thanked Nala for her help. With little trouble, Akado walked to the entrance of the tent, he turned around and noted the sadness that pervaded Nala. Her bright, intelligent eyes were looking back and ahead all at the same time wondering how life would go on. The troubled bender knew what worried her. It was practically the same thing that troubled him, loss.
“He was a good man,” that was all he could say, just before he left his only real acquaintance alone.

Drowsiness began to set in as Pakku sat on the water's edge and his eyelids became heavy, drooping down to mask his eyes from the rest of the world. He could feel the familiar traces of sleep starting to creep over him, and it was all he could do to keep from falling completely asleep. The war was proving to be a losing battle and, before long, he was unconscious.
From the depths of the blackness that came with sleep, faces started to drift into focus; those of people who held particular importance in his life.
The first was a soft, fair face framed by black hair peppered with streaks of silver. It was a kind, gentle face, one that he knew well and had become accustomed to over many years. She had been an amazing healer; certainly not the best the Northern Tribe, but one of the best. His mother had been a wonderful woman and parent, and having to deal with her death in his 30's had taken a toll on him, but he'd never spoken of his feelings about her to anyone, not even...
...his former fiancee. She appeared to him as she'd looked when they were betrothed, and he could see every detail as clearly as if her former self was standing right in front of him. The unspoken ultimatum that had presented itself before she'd left for the Southern Tribe had rent his heart in two, but perhaps it had been for the best; after all, he was of more service to his Tribe as a Waterbending instructor than a married man, and even Kanna had said that he'd have to make a choice between the two if things between them were ever to work out. His choice had become painfully obvious and he'd had to live with its consequences for longer than he cared to remember.
A girl with darker skin appeared next, and he immediately knew who it was: Katara. Next to Lakano, she had been his most promising student and would be a Master before reaching womanhood, provided she didn't let things distract her...like the Avatar. Although he'd never said anything, he knew that Aang was smitten with her; normally, this wouldn't have been an issue, except he could foresee it interfering with realization as an Avatar. Love was a funny thing, and it could make the most sane of people do the most stupid things.
Another face started to climb out of the mire, but the darkness became tainted with light as sound assaulted his ears, muffled by his current state. As he tried to focus, the sound became louder until he eventually snapped himself out of his dream long enough to hear someone saying, "Master Pakku?"
A quick breath in brought him back to reality and he realized that four boats were snug against the shore. A group of fourteen people clothed in Northern garb were standing there and one in particular had been the person to wake him. The man in his early 20's had angular features, a mess of black hair perched on top of his head, and a perpetually smug look on his face.
"Master Pakku? I think you drifted off to sleep," the man said, and Pakku let out a sigh.
"Thank you for waking me, Siku," he said simply in reply, getting up and melting his seat with a motion of his hand. Siku, although brash, was his top student, although by no means the best he'd ever had. The man knew what he was doing and excelled in all of his lessons except one: Octopus Form. It seemed he lacked the focus necessary to simultaneously control eight water tentacles, and unless he could get his act together, Pakku wouldn't be able to grant him Master rank. He turned his attention to his students.
"The Southern Tribe has made accommodations for all of you, but we begin work this evening after sundown. We won't have the moon to aid us, but I believe you are all capable enough to make up for this," he announced, earning murmurs from the group. With that, he turned around and began the trek back to the tribe with his students in tow,

((Sorry about the long wait. RL + school =/= fertile posting opportunities.))
He walked with his typical melancholy; his head was leaning to the right, and his eyes were dull. There was never any spring in Akado’s movement. They were void of any real energy. To be honest, there wasn’t much motivating him to do anything. So the waterbender performed life’s daily motions with drudgery.
As he trotted across the main road, he noticed how the children ran to the opening of the tribe, the one he’d come in from. It was their ruckus that made him look; otherwise he wouldn’t have given them any attention. However, soon after the children roared away, a few women quickly paced in the children’s footsteps and that drew Akado’s eyes eastward. The kids, never mind them, they always made noise wherever they went, and where they went never seemed to make any sense, but when a crowd of ten women follows suit, then something was up.
He sighed, looked away and then walked absentmindedly in the opposite direction of the people. After walking for a few seconds, more people began to follow the steps created by the young ones.
Something of some importance could be taking place, but still, why did he care. Akado was a simple man; he didn’t mind living a life absent of excitement. He never craved attention, honor, status or anything that would bring attention to him. This troubled bender enjoyed the background as opposed to the foreground.
With reluctance, he veered himself around, and followed the procession that lead to the edge of the tribe’s boundaries. There was already a crowd gathered around, and as he tried to see what was going on, he was able to notice new faces that at the same time didn’t look new. A few of the people looked familiar, and…they were the people Master Pakku called for, the new help.
What happened next, Akado could explain, but at the site of these people he faintly smiled. Hopefully, these men wouldn’t cause too much trouble.

Of course, Aarluk was the first to greet them.
"Esteemed students of Master Pakku; welcome to the Southern Water Tribe," the man said, bowing to them. The display was...unnecessary, as these students were undeserving of high levels of respect when it came to their statuses as benders, especially since none of them were even close to becoming Masters. He hated it, but sometimes, the students let the prestige of being under Master Pakku's tutelage go to their head, as if that made them any more special than any other Waterbender in the world.
"It is an honor to serve our sister tribe," Siku said, a haughty tone in his voice as if he were the leader of the group. Pakku had to constantly remind him of his place, especially in the presence of a Master, but that didn't discourage the man from constantly doing it.
"All right. Today, we're going to work on some more techniques," Pakku said suddenly, earning a groan from his students. From the sound of things, it sounded like they all thought that they were on vacation instead of working, and he couldn't let them forget that that wasn't the case. If they got too content, nothing would get done.
"Now, you'll have time to whine over dinner. Let's go," he said, beckoning to his students. They dutifully followed him out of the tribe to an empty space where they could practice.

((Feel free to timeshift, or whatever the hell else, Kai. Because I have nothing.))
There should have been joy in his heart or at least something instead of the emptiness that had become commonplace. After all, these were fellow Water Tribesman, and more importantly people who would help alleviate him from waiting for the moon to shine through. However, that did nothing for him. He saw their faces, and the smiles on those all around them and he failed to feel their joy or energy. The electric current of bliss that washed over everyone else failed to overwhelm him. Sure he was smiling, but the joy in everyone else’s eyes was absent from his.
Over the crowd’s jubilation, Akado heard that one guy’s voice, uh Aarluk or wasn’t it? Yes, it was that was his name, either way he went on about how happy most of the tribe now was or something along those. During his intro, the bitter bender caught a glimpse of Nala among the throngs of jubilant greeters; she was happy. She barely even a woman was happy to see these men a looked as if she didn’t lose her husband and still bore his child. If she could abandon those painful sentiments, then why couldn’t he do the same?
Another voice from the arrivals soon shot out, and once again the middle-aged waterbender failed to give it much heed. Eventually, the crowed began to disperse with only a few remnants actually following the newcomers. Before he realized this, Akado was then left standing in the same position he had been in and in front of him stood the eldest of the tribe, Kana.
“It will do the tribe good to have these men help us, will it not?”
It was too late; he looked her in the eye. She was old, but Akado knew well that she was reading him like a book. Like a child who had done something wrong, he stood there wide-eyed and responded.
“Yes, it shouldn’t be too long before we can all move onto the snow.” He noted her smile, and compassion. She was a strict woman, but an understanding one.
“Good.”
As she walked away, she left Akado almost dumbfounded in fear. Why was he afraid? He hadn’t done anything, right? No, of course not, there wasn’t anything to be afraid off. But, he could still feel his heart beating quickly, and that cold sweat feeling.
After she left, Akado shook it off, and then proceeded to the tribe’s makeshift dock or place that housed the three boats. Maybe he could find something to entertain himself with there. At least until later.

Fourteen students, one impudent Waterbender, and one Master; sixteen benders that had been tasked with repairing the ice sheet that kept the Southern Water Tribe above the frigid ocean. As much as he'd like to think that they could make short work of it, even his students up for Master status didn't have the stamina he did, and he doubted that they would be able to completely repair more than two lengths of their line; at least, they wouldn't be able to if they wanted to ensure that the job was done right.
Thankfully, the moon was partially full, which meant they wouldn't have to work by torchlight, and it was for the best; the torches would probably be doused by the water they would be manipulating.
"Okay, we have a lot of work to do, and it's going to be tough, even for you," he said, casting a glance at Siku, whose expression told him that the brash man was thinking otherwise. Pakku let out a small sigh and continued.
"This is going to be a test to see how sensitive you are to the presence of water, as well. You're going to need to probe the depths of the rift and see where the ice ends and the ocean begins, then bring water up through the crack and freeze it on the way. Once you're done, I want you to probe the space where you worked again to see if there are any flaws in your work...oh, and I'll be coming by personally to ensure that you didn't do a shoddy job." He crossed his arms as he surveyed the students, weighing them down with a heavy gaze.
"Now, I'll be pairing you up to work on sections of the crack," he said, looking down the lineup. One by one, he paired them off until he came to Siku,
"Siku, you'll be working with Akado," he announced, a sly smile on his face as he looked over at his former student. Sure, Akado might have thought that he got the best of the old Master by refusing to participate in the lesson, and the council may have mandated that they not work together, but it would be fun to see how the two worked together.

((I assume it’s night.))
With the sun no longer lingering above, the night air was its typical biting self. The snow was still that blank dark color it usually was at this time. Well, it might be. The night was too cold to be out; this place was too inhospitable for people to inhabit. And yet, these ladies and their children were out here, alone, for many years; doing the very things he now did. It was almost unimaginable, but their existence was the testament to that fact. They somehow worked the land, survived through the cold, and made a home out of this arctic weather. Maybe not worked the land, but the rest was true.
While the master instructed his pupils, the bitter bender continued to neglect his instruction. It wasn’t meant for him. He’d done this kind of work for almost a decade. Truth be told, his work wasn’t exactly this work, but it was pretty close to it. Akado was skilled at feeling the shape and patterns of water; he had to be for his job. Subsequently, as the instruction was being given, his eyes wandered left and his mind went right.
“Hmm,” mumbled the dumbfounded man as he heard his name. Looking around, he noticed one of the students eyeing him, Akado shot him a glare, but then realized that they had just been paired up. Great, I get the pompous one.
His icy eyes scanned the snow and his surroundings. “Come on,” instructed Akado as he made his way to the edge of the tribe and the beginning of the snow wall.
“We’ll start here,” asserted the dark man as he loosened his tension, respired and then felt attuned himself with not only the chi in floor, but also the energy being cast by the moon. When he felt the energy shift from a rigid structure to a more loosely compacted one, he centered his arms, turned his palms face down, bent his elbows so his hands then hung by his pectorals, and then pushed down.
His eyes were closed at that moment, his mind supremely connected with the task at hand. It was easier this time, unlike the day Master Pakku came. Then, this task was difficult and incredibly straining, but in the moonlight, it was easier. It was hard to explain, but the only way to explain it was that he was sort of using the energy from the moon. His chi was still being manipulated to move the water, but the bulk of the weight fell on Yue.
There was tension, not his, but that one person, Siku. He was being too forceful with the ocean, rather than move with the nature forced of the push and pull he was just pulling. And to make it worse, his enhanced bending was only making the task more difficult than it actually was.
“No, move with the water, feel the push and the pull, push lightly when you need to and pull twice as hard when the ocean allows it.” Instructed Akado as he was beginning to spread the water out, hoping to guide it through the many nooks and crannies of the ice sheet.

Of course, it was easy enough to find the bottom of the ice sheet as he had before, but the fact that he was working with Tunerk, possibly his best student, made the job much easier. Unlike Siku, Tunerk knew how to flow with the water and displayed a prowess for fine control that he didn't see in his other students. There was no interference of push and pull, no clashing of their chis; the flowed, pushed, and pulled as smoothly as the water itself and, in no time, they both let out a freezing breath to cement their section of the crack together.
"Excellent work, Tunerk," he said, kneeling down and feeling nothing but ice below his hand until the solid phase of water met the liquid. Unless some catastrophe happened again to crack the ice, it would hold indefinitely.
Slowly, he walked down the line and inspected his students' work, pausing to check for flaws in their repairs. Other than a few issues, his benders were doing exactly as they were told and producing results he wouldn't be embarrassed to call the product of his teachings.
He had to stop and chuckle to himself when he saw how much difficulty Siku and Akado were having, mainly because Siku refused to take into account the other Waterbender he was working with. He could hear Akado trying to instruct the headstrong bender how to properly mend the ice, and he almost reprimanded him as he didn't believe his former student had a proper grasp on the principles needed for teaching, but having to be paired with Siku would be punishment enough. He was just counting down until Akado either gave up or complained to him or the Council.

Why did I get this one?
He’s too proud
This man was making the task far more difficult than it should have been. It was simple, move water up, weave it between the ice, put it into the proper place, freeze it in place, and then move on to the next spot. Even though Akado had tried to instruct Siku on the proper way to do it, the man was still doing it his way. It was infuriating, and completely stupid. If this man would only listen, then they could combine their strengths and use less effort in this job, instead this conflict was making the task more effort intensive because the two waterbenders were working against one another rather than together.
That being said, the middle-aged bender had tried to work with Siku, but the man was too difficult. His bending was his own, and the way that he fought against the water’s chi made it a more difficult endeavor than to just fight him.
If this kept up, the other groups would have to pick up their shortcomings. After finally freezing that bit and mending the ice sheet, Akado looked to the other groups. They were definitely advancing faster than he was, and to make matters worse Siku seemed like the man who wouldn’t accept his lack of skill a reason for failure. Meaning this inept man would blame him for their snail’s pace.
With a plan in mind, Akado reached the next site before Siku did. He eyed the bender with his icy blue eyes and begged him to follow his lead, “I have over ten years experience; follow me don’t fight me.”
Again, he assumed the same stance, felt the natural forces at play and proceeded to bend as he had done for the majority of his life. Unfortunately, Siku was still following his own style. Sure, for a warrior it may not have been a problem, but here teamwork was essential.
Whatever drove Siku to bend by his own regard was certainly not what fueled Akado. The two were probably worlds apart in life. This man was probably loved by everyone as a child, and grew up using his talent and looks to win over favors and attitudes. Struggle and strife were probably foreign concepts to him. Akado didn’t have that luxury. He wasn’t particularly handsome and wasn’t completely ugly, but he was more ugly than good looking; so his upbringing only warranted him the essentials to living. He wasn’t given a pretty face or a charismatically enthralling personality.
Still, that didn’t matter. The only thing that mattered was that Akado would be out here for a long time.

As Pakku worked with Tunerk on the second site, he glanced over and saw that Akado was completely miserable working with Siku. He would have liked to enjoy it, but a twinge of remorse had him thinking otherwise.
Sure, he'd gotten his little jab in at his former student, even though Kanna had mandated that they work apart, but it had been a childish move on his part; he'd sacrificed efficiency and progress for his own designs. That was something a child would have done, and here he was, a Master Waterbender and instructor, doing just that. He felt ashamed at his actions and realized that if he had issue with Akado, he'd have to find a more direct way of dealing with it than petty sniping. As soon as the water he and Tunerk had put into the crack solidified, he melted some snow from the ground at his feet and coiled it back, using a fluid motion to send it flying forward.
The whip cracked and hit Siku in the head; the boy looked at him in shock.
"You disgust me, Siku. You're supposed to be one of my best students and yet someone who stopped learning from me years ago is doing better than you!? I suggest you empty the blubber from your ears and listen to him." His gaze was stringent and intense, and Siku shrank from it. Begrudgingly, the student froze the water in the site he was working on and joined Akado at the next site; Pakku was happy to see him taking Akado's instructions to heart and work with his former student rather than against him.
