The Ultimate Guide to Getting Started on The Avatar RP
  • Saying Hi. If you would like to introduce yourself to other members of the site, there is a Newbie Introductions board just for that. Click here to enter the board, or find it under "Rules, Help, and Announcements" on the main page. You can create your own thread and say hi to everyone, and other members will respond and often give you a quick rundown of the rules.
  • A thread is another word for a topic or post.
  • Reading the Rules. It might be boring, but reading the rules is important because it prevents a lot of the messes that pop up on our boards from time to time. Be sure you read all the rules by clicking here and reading the Rules board (also under "Rules, Help, and Announcements" on the main page) before you start RPing.

  • Creating a Character. Before you can start actually RPing, you need to develop your character for the world of the Avatar. Writing a character profile will allow everyone else to know what your character looks and acts like. Click here to enter the Profiles board (also under "Profiles" on the main page). Here, you post your profile under Pending Profiles. If there is a problem, you will be PMed by Toph. Once it is accepted, it will be moved to it's proper board (ie, Male Firebenders). There are also threads for major groups that your character can potentially join.
  • You cannot be an airbender because Aang, the Avatar, is "The Last Airbender."
  • You can have more than one character if you wish, but you may want to start with just one and get used to RPing before you create any more.
  • Once you create your primary character you must change your display name to match it. To do this, click on "Profile" on the bar at the top of the screen, then click the "Modify Profile" link in the new window, and enter your character's name (Capitalized!) in the "Display Name" box.
  • Learning to RP. Once you have created your character, you may want to take some time and learn to properly RP if you don't know how. Click here to enter the RPG School (also under "The RPG School and Discussion" on the main page), run by our admin Karena, where you can learn to RP romance, RP battle, and develop your character further.
  • Even if you are experienced in RPing, it is mandatory that you pass either Free Form or Prompt Exemptions before you begin posting in the real RP. If you fail that, then you have to do either Battle or Romance Training.
  • Joining the Storyline. You have read the rules, created a character, and passed the RP test! Now you are free to start playing as your character in the world of the Avatar. You can post as your character in locations in the Fire Nation, Earth Kingdom, or the Water Tribes and Air Temples (under "Nations, Kingdoms, and Tribes" on the main page).
  • If you would like to join an existing storyline, or just want to find some other people to RP with, click here to enter the RPG Discussion board (under "The RPG School and Discussion" on the main page) where there are threads for major storylines, and an "I Need Someone to RP With!" thread for anyone to post on.

In accordance with the New Year, TARP has changed some of it’s rules! The Basic Site Rules, Basic RP Rules, as well as FAQs 3 and 4 have been edited. They are marked. Most only affect future or newer members, but some do affect current members, so you should be familiar. The changes are detailed, as well as explained, in here and the PM.
