ASAMI SATO

Age: Seventeen
Occupation: N/A
Special Abilities: Hand-to-hand combat and exceptional driving
Possible Spoilers? yes

Why do you think you'd be a good player for this character?
This series is filled to the brim with strong female characters, not only physically but mentally strong as well. Asami is no exception. I have yet to play such a character before, usually sticking to my comfort zone of handicapped characters (in one form or another) as it's easy to play up their weaknesses. Asami's character doesn't reflect many weaknesses on the surface, so I really want to go in depth of **. I may have a bit of trouble, to tell the truth, with her more calm nature as I can get worked up easily, but I'm sure after I break into her character that it'll become easier.

Please describe your understanding of this character's personality.
Raised in the Upper Class, she seems to have been taught since she was young to be polite, generous and charismatic, as expected of a successful business man's daughter. However, she is the most atypical character of her wealth and social class we have seen in the show's history (both in AtLA and Lok). As such, she does not follow the guidelines of being a "Daddy's Girl", though many people have confused her to be of such. She doesn't seem to have much trouble leaving her comfort zone, almost an optimist when it comes to enjoying the world or making the best of a situation. Her generous outlook on people, places and activities and her status in the world often mask the fact she can be self sufficient, independent and responsible.

She's a very forward woman, her confidence in the world unchanged by the things life throws at her, showing she has incredible coping skills or at least is the kind of person able to put her own problems on the back-burner until she sees an opening. Asami is the master of her own emotions, able to keep her anger at back or her insecurities to the side. When she does lash out, it tends to be most passive aggressive acts, her weapon of choice being bitter remarks which are still kept at a minimum.

Due to her raising and events in her past, she's seen to have a reluctance in seeing the worst of the people she cares about, acting somewhat close minded to the idea that they weren't what she thought they were. She shows a desire to help or be apart of something bigger than herself, ready to help any way she can. She's a bit quick to trust as seen in her adventures with Mako. Though we have no way of seeing how much time has passed for their relationship, it still feels as though she put a lot of trust into Mako, perhaps due to the fact she hadn't yet experienced a reason not to.

In your own words, please write your character's history, taking into account the site plot.
Asami was granted the gift of not knowing hardships, born into a family of high standings in the world. Her father was a bit of a family man, the family having something of the desired situation that most people strive to have. After a break in of her home by a firebender from the Agni Kai Triad, this family situation took a turn for the worst when her mother was killed. With only her father left, she accepted his strides to be closer.

She was put into martial art classes, finding herself very adept at. On top of being able to defend herself in any situation, she became a skilled driver, surpassing even the test drivers. Though the trauma was dealt with, an emotional scar like that rarely heals completely. Still, her life then on was without troubles.

One day, out on a ride on her moped, she hit a man who ran out from behind a bus. Though the blame was equal, seeing that the man she had hit was Mako of the fireferrets, she apologized and even offered to take him on a date. They made an instant connection and soon began to date, before which finding out that he was in a bit of financial trouble she got her father to sponsor them for the tournament.

Anything else you'd like to add?
I want to be able to focus on Asami's situational struggles. As the show is about Korra, I understand not putting a lot to put the spotlight on Asami, so I want to be able to bring that out a little bit and explore the depths of her relationship with Mako. It seemed to have been mostly attraction to Mako, but for Asami, I think it was more of an emotional connection. She's seen several times using Mako as the rock in her ever changing life, the later betrayal most likely making her world a mess, though -as a strong character- she refuses to show it.

**
the betrayal of her father and Mako's affections for Korra. While this might break some people, it keeps her going and it doesn't get in the way of working together as Team Avatar as well as where her motivation of being apart of Team Avatar as it isn't depicted very much -as the main focus is Korra- even if it was hinted at a bit with her father's betrayal. To me, I suppose she wants to help out, not just for her friends' sake, but to undo the wrongs of her father and the 'equality' he sought.

Roleplay Sample:
The dark haired girl laid on her bed with her eyes fixed on the ceiling slightly red and puffy. In the depths and privacy of her room, she allowed herself to worry and fret as much as she wanted. She felt like she should be ashamed for crying, for not being strong for her boyfriend and everyone else, for not being someone they had to worry about in the midst of their own problems, but here, where she was alone, she let go of that concern, allowing her emotions to run free until she was tired from the emotional turmoil.

Amon and his gang of Equalists had attacked the probending arena, stealing the bending of the champions, of who he made a point to pick at the fact the only reason they had won was because of cheating and that probending fans worshiped such people, like the Wolf-Bats were now the stigma of the bending population. It was hard not to wish ill upon the opposing team of which she supported, but she would have rather it be them instead of the Fire Ferrets.

The whole ideal had been terrifying: the sudden attack of the Equalists from the stands, watching Mako, Bolin and Korra get electrocuted in the sink and watching Korra take off to fight right as she could- and that was only about her worry of her friends'. To her, though it wouldn't be the first thing she would openly admit to most people, as she sat in those crowds, as faces of assumed probending fans turned into nightmares, she felt her sense of security fade away slightly, but it was still enough to effect her. Anyone she passed by on the streets, bought food from (or who brought her food) could be an Equalist waiting for the moment to arise and attack. As a nonbender, she knew she had nothing to worry about, but that didn't stop her.

Asami swung her legs from out of under the blanket and off the side of her bed. Her body was still sluggish from a night of occasional sleep, but she managed to get up and get ready for the day. The attack on the arena had put the probending games out of business and, consequentially, made her boyfriend homeless, to which she had replied that he could come and live with her. The place she called home had more than enough rooms and they were never tight on money, so supporting them would hardly be a problem.

The problem would be her father and his permission.

As she finished putting on her make up and taking a final look in the mirror, she decided on a path she figured would work quite well: not asking for his permission. Empathizing what a parent might think, a daughter asking her boyfriend to move in could possibly be a big red flag despite the situation at hand and Asami was not willing to chance Mako's term of residence.

She made her way down the hall, down the stairs and towards the garage, stopping only to talk to the maid- a lovely woman called Kari. Quickly, she readied herself for a calm and steady voice and gesturing the woman to walk along side her so there would be no need for eye contact. The last thing she needed at the moment was for anyone to notice her red eyes. The girl had managed to rid herself of the puffiness with the care of cold and warm water, but concerning her staff was not a habit of hers.

"I'm taking a drive," she informed, grabbing the keys to one of the cars, a kind smile on her red lips. It was sad to think that the boys wouldn't have enough stuff to need something bigger than a satomobile, but things a bit easier. "I would also like two rooms ready for guests, if you wouldn't mind. I should be back before noon," Asami said after quickly estimating how much time it would take to get there and back and assuming they weren't done packing yet, and she had the feeling they wouldn't be.

Sorry about the wait. This was truly a horrible weekend for me, so I apologize that I didn't get back to you sooner.

As for your app, you seem to understand Asami as a character well enough. However, my issue with this app comes in the RP sample. It is a bit one-dimensional. I understand that Asami's a calm person, generally, but considering what's been going on, I think that it could been done better, because it doesn't show her depth as a character at all.

This is just my opinion, but I do think that if he agrees, you should re-do the RP sample.

Nice work. It sounded like Asami's voice and it was a fun read.

I agree with Hangetsu. This was much better and I think with some practice you'd make a good Asami.

Please pm me when you read this and I'll move it.
